OBDII codes

The MIL has been on ever since I replaced the spark plugs on my 98 ML. Tonight, I plugged the OBDII scanner and got the codes P0173 and P0170. From others indicated in this forum it seems that the MAF sensor is to blame. In addition I also found that the EV (Evaporative system monitor) is flashing. According to the scanner manual, it says when the icon is flashing it means the monitor has not run its diagnostic test. How do I get it to not flashing, i.e. make it perform what it's suppose to perform?
The manual mention something about "trip drive cycle", what is that? Thanks for any input.

Steve,

My pamphlet of the codes shows P0173 as Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 2). P0170 is Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1).

Can't help with your other questions hopefully someone else can. I'm sure the manual for the scan too is confusing.

last week, I use the scanner to find the code after check engine
warning light is on. It show the two codes like yours. I check the code booklet by Jim. It said fuel trim malfunction. But the scanner
said the computer adjusted the malfunction over the pre-set limit.
The car runs fine, I erase the code. The warning light has not been back yet. My daughter is using the car in Boston now.

Renny,
Did you erase the code using the scanner? or just disconnect the battery. I am a little concern over erasing the code with the OBDII scanner since it will also erase all the factory settings stored in the computer. Any one have different thoughts otherwise?
