Coil spring compressor

I reviewed the threads regarding replacement of the rear shocks but I could not find a specific reference to the brand of coil compressor used to compress the coil spring which has coils that are quite thick and close together. I know what MB recommeds, I've posted a picture but I'm not inclined to buy that part which probably costs lots of cash.

i'm about to change my lower control arm bushings and i noticed my normal spring compressor isnt going to work on these front springs for the same reason as stated above.. too many coils too close together..

does anyone now of a way to get the job done w/o this special tool?

Thanks
