Gilly . . . boiling water & fan wiring harness
 

Is there a recall on that fan wiring harness and fuse issue? ( the fuse is good) My dealer says no, but it keeps coming up in the threads. (2) Should the water "boil" as it is returning to the surge tank? Thanks, Paul (2000 320ML, 22000 mi.)

There is, yes. I can't lay my hands on it now, I know I had a copy of it here........
I'm not 100% sure if your 2000 needs it, may only be 98 & 99.
Tell your dealer it's in group 83 (air conditioning), the description of it starts kind of goofy, something like "Insufficient AC performance". The problem is there is a fuse that blows which is for the auxillary cooling fan, which is what the modification (thicker wiring) helps prevent.

On the antifreeze question, it's a pressure tank, not a surge tank. You may see bubbles in the tank occasionally, just from my own observations.

The dealership did the service for me when I took my 99 in for the window switch issue.

It was listed on the invoice as "A/C aux fans not operating when engine is at idle".

The parts listing for the fix includes a wiring harness and replacement of the blown fuse.

Thanks for the info. On the occasional boiling antifreeze, I thought that the pressure cap should keep it from boiling.

I'm not so sure it is actually boiling, I think just some transcient air bubbles passing through......
If the temp gauge is under 100c, it shouldn't actually be boiling at all.
