removing front portion of dash?

Anyone know how to remove the front part of the interior dash? I mean the part that's closest to the windshield if you look at the top of the dash (the top of the dash looks like it's divided into two pieces by this). It looks like it's removeable at least. I'm getting a slight rattling noise in there over bumps and I'm wondering if it'd be a pain to have a look inside :-)

The upper part is bolted to the body. You would need to remove the lower part first, it screws to the upper part. It's a pretty major job. There are a few common rattle areas on the ML dash, if you could better describe the location the noise seems to be coming from, and the model year of your truck, maybe I can speed up the process.
Also how often does the noise happen, and when does it happen.

Thanks, Gilly. I'm surprised that top part of the dash is so hard to take out. It looks almost like I could pry it loose by pushing out from the curved middle of the top portion.

Over bumpy roads, I hear these quirks in my 2001 ML320:
- rattle from sail panel area of driver's door (happens consistently in a driving session, but not every driving session)
- pop from the middle of the dash near the windshield (happens intermittently depending on how crappy the road is)
- rattle on the right front side of the dash (relatively consistent; opening the glovebox makes it go away, but I think I'm just the dash to flex when I open the glovebox)
- squeaking like foam being rubbed against glass (seems to be dependent on temp and happens after washing the car)

The american company who designed the dash module should be smacked...
