ML430 oil consumption

I own a 2000 ML430, and I am amazed at the oil consumption. Does anyone think it is normal to have to add 1 litre of oil every 2000 kilometres. I always use synthetic oil. I just want to be reassured. I have no apparent leaks, I guess it is burnt with the gas. My dealer says that it is normal that an 8cyl engine consumes oil.

How often do you change the oil?

If you follow the recommended service intervals, the rings might get some sludge on them and due to the low tension design might stick to the pistons a little.

That oil consumption is considered acceptable for that engine, though.
