Front door locks

I just bought a 98 ml 320, I'm having problems with the front door locks. At first, the drivers door lock began engaging and disengaging erratically when i pushed the door lock button( ALso happened with the keys) Then the passenger door started doing the same. At first the locks would eventually engage, but now the passenger door lock stays unlocked. I'm wondering if any of you guys have had the same problem and is it something I can fix without having to go to my MB dealer. And in the meantime, can the door be locked manually so I dont have to leave the door unlocked. Thanx for your help. :)

Fairly common problem, there is a tech bulletin out which describes this problem, I think they refer to it as "bouncing" door locks. Problem is the latch assembly, they have updated parts that fix this.

Where can I view this tech bulletin?

The dealer should have it or have access to it on Netstar

Machine gun locks

I'm expiriencing the machine gun lock problem but only on the driver side door lock.

Question if this is the symptom is the problem still the rear hatch latch assembly or is it simply a faulty driver side door lock module.

Assuming its the rear latch assembly what do you call the reoplacement part.

Assuming its not the rer assembly latch, what could be the driver side door lock's problem? A faulty lock mechanism, sensor or kinked cables?

TIA

do a search on machine gun door locks.

If your trunk cannot lock then it's the trunk lock. If it locks then your trunks OK.

If it's always your driver door then it's the lock for your drivers door that needs to be replaced. This can be done at home but involves removing and replacing pop rivets. If you don't know what that is then you'll need a garage to do the work. It's not that hard but just requires taking the door apart and taking the entire lock mechanism out which is one single unit. You reuse the lock cylinder. This is a very common problem. The part number depends on your car build date.
