Good shop and mechanic in or around Raleigh, NC?

I fell in love and bought an '87 560SEL - 225k miles and needs some work.

Before going in deep, I would like to have someone much more experienced tune the engine (it's running a little rough when warm) and maybe check out the transmission, which slams a little from 1st to 2nd.

Calling the local MB dealer was frustrating - they don't CARE about a nice machine like this - and besides, I am quite sure a real mechanic can do a lot more with the $800 they are asking for 30k service...

So, I would appreciate any hints and experiences! Also, I'll be happy to add whatever I can find out to this thread...

Without reservations.........

Call Ronnie King at "The Car Place".

5409 Oakforest Drive, Raleigh, N.C. 27616

919-878-5600

The hourly rates have climbed a bit steeply lately ($79. at last visit) but he is an honest guy and will never steer you wrong.

I recommened the shop to one fellow who needed to have the entire front end of a 240 rebuilt and he saved over $1500. by bringing Ronnie the parts from Fastlane.

Mention to Ronnie that I sent you to him.

service

When I lived down in NC I liked to go to A Better Wrench in Chapel Hill. I know it's not that close to you but they specialize in the 80's models Mercedes.

Competent!

When I purchased my first Benz I found the shop here and have used him since. Brian Walker at Peak Automotive, location is Hwy 64 @ Lake Pine. They are located just behind Gole's Furniture, 363-7077. You will not be disappointed.

Check "Classic Performance Auto" at 1005 Trinity Road in Raleigh, NC. They are reasonably priced and do excellent work.

Thanks

I know Pat the owner of the Car Place. They do good work. Matter fact they sent all of their rotor resurfacing and tire jobs to us. My shop Auto Dynamics, Inc. was located in the same building off of Oak Forest Rd. behind David O' Neal Dealers.

MB shop

I usually recommend D&E Quality Service. Not cheap (you probably don't want cheap), but reasonable, fair, and honest.
