Edge: just curious, what did they charge you to do the work you specified in your last post?

Edge: I want to thank you for reccomending Mirko, I picked up the car today. His prices are very fair and the work is excellent. I have no complaints what so ever, I will always use this guy. One of the few honest mechanics out there

Mechanic in Queens, NY

Ernst Foreign Car service just moved today July 28th, 2006 from Flushing Queens to Westbury, Long Island. I would go to him but won't make it all the way to Long Island without my car dying on the road. (Crankshaft Position Sensor DIY
(simple CPS replacement that i'd do myself but can't for the life of me locate the part on my car).

:CONTACT DATA EDIT:
Ernst Foreign Car Service Inc
981 Old Country Road # B
Westbury, NY 11590-5658
Phone: (516) 833-5131

I saw that you guys recommended Ultimate car service on Northern Blvd, so i'll try them tomorrow but just in case, does anyone else know of another good shop in Queens, NY? (I live in Jackson Heights)

Thanks!

Mechanics In Ny

There appears to be only two mechanics near Manhattan besides the dealerships. Chander and Ultimate Car Service. Are there any others? I need more options. I've been to both, are there any small shops, even corner stations, that repair diesels?

Thumbs up NYC Mechanic

Hi, I just called Chander and set up an appointment with "Derrick" to bring my 1996 C-Class in on Fri., June 29, 2007. My check engine light is/has been on for several years. Can't pass inspection this year :<(. Also, I want to get the breaks checked(front and rear). I will post an update once I have taken my baby in and if/when I choose to get the work done.
Blessings,
Quincelady

Update to this post:
I took the car in on June 26 and stayed with it while Derrick ran a diagnostic for the "check engine light". He suggested replacing the Air Flow Meter and Air filter($400. plus labor =$700.00). He had me take the car for a ride after doing the work. I came back about 1 and 1/2 hours later. Check engine light came back on. He ran another diagnostic. Seemed to be a EGR problem. It was late so I left it. I called him the next day and he was still working on it. Friday morning he decided to replace the EGR valve(said he could return it if it was not the problem). It was late so he let me pick up the car and keep it for the weekend. On the way home the CE light came on again. Called him this morning(June 30) and made arrangements to bring it back on Monday(July 2). He has not charged me for anything. We will square the deal once the CE light it OFF. I have to get this done or else I cannot pass inspection My registration expires on the 17th of July
I'll keep you all posted. If anyone has any idea "what may be causing the check engine light to stay on" feel free to email me. I have a 1996 C280 with 90,000 miles on her.
I took the car in today at 8AM(July2). Derrick and I went for a ride after he cleared all the codes. Afterwards, he inspected the car(since the check engine light had not come back on). It Passed! However, Derrick informed me that he thought the engine wiring harness would need to be replaced soon. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA regarding harness! In total the job cost $805.27 for a new Air flow meter, EGR Valve, and Air Filter, quite a few hours of labor and testing, and Inspection! Don't forget ...taxes too! All in all I am satisfied with Chander Auto Repair!

Update: The check engine light is back on. Came on about one day after I got it back from Chandler. He had told me that perhaps the ENGINE WIRING HARNESS needed to be replaced because he kept getting all kinds of readings during the inspection. Well I have no intentions on spending over $1300.00 to get that light to go out. I am going on a long drive this month and I will rent a car. When I get back I will consider kicking this baby to the curb!

If the car rides with no noticeable problem can't you remove the check engine light?

I recommend Hans Auto in New Paltz for all your German cars. They have been working on both the BMW and the Mercedes for a couple years now and I have found them to be honest very competent, reliable , and reasonably priced.

he is located at
