Press in ball joints in MA

Can anyone in central or eastern Massachusetts recommend an independent Mercedes repair shop who will press in ball joints into the steering knuckle of my 84 300TDT, and be reasonable about it? I would like to bring just the steering knuckle, with old ball joints already removed, with the new ball joints and have them press them in.

It seems that nowadays, too many shops either don't want to look at you for this type of work, or they want to charge upwards of $150 for this work.

Thanks,

Mark

Why not just do it yourself? The rental tool kit from autozoo did the trick for me, just make sure you are applying pressure to the lip only. A little dry ice doesnt hurt either.

I am not familiar with Indy's in MA, but I am familiar with the model plate on the wagon hatch.......

Find an Automotive Machine Shop!

I have normally gone to a NAPA with a machine shop to have this work done. I bring them the spindle and they take out the old bj and put the new one in. Last time, they charged me $15 each for the work. that was 2 years ago.

Machine shops such as NAPA's are equipped with the right equipment for this kind of work and they do quite a bit of it. On my first time, I rented the BJ press but its a PIA to do the work with a hand tool like that. For the price of letting them do it, its well worth it.

Also, when doing struts, have machine shops do it too. Forget renting spring compressors.

You could try calling Ed Owen, he's in Waltham. I'm sure he could at least give you a thought on cost. His facility is 1st rate, really!
