did you sign warranty waiver at dealer?

A dealer asked me to sign waiver.

Dealer is responsible for related problem after repair.

Effective from October 2003 for MB cars over 100 k miles or over 10 years.

Sorry I did not read in detail, but the main idea was that dealer is not responsible for related problem after repair.
And by signing the document, I agree that the dealer is not responsible.
At the top of the document it read that it was effective from that time.

I was not much interested in detail on what they are not responsible, because I just had them change oil and oil filter, lubricate throttle linkage, and lubricate key hole on door and trunk.

Do you mean that they are having you sign a waiver stating that they will not warrant their work at all? I would not do such a thing.

They ask everyone to sign it for an old MB.
(I do not think 10 year or 100k miles old.)

I did not go through the document carefully. So I am not sure whether it is "no warranty at all" or some reduced warranty.

The dealer is Clair (Mercedes Benz of Westwood), 425 Providence Highway, Route 1, Westwood, MA. 02090,
(781) 688-1000.

I think every MB dealer should have the same warranty policy for their repair work.

Other MB dealers may be applying same policy without any signature.

I just called the dealer and asked them to fax it to me. The person who received the phone did not know about the 10 year 100,000 mile waiver document. But she said she would look for it.

So...am I getting this right? If they screw up and leave off the "O"ring that goes in the oil filter housing cap, they are not responsible if your engine fails afterwards. Or do they mean that they are not responsible if the oil cooler hose blows afterwards because they did no work in that area. seems subject to too much interpretation. Scary to have to sign such a document. I would find someone else to service my car. My $.02. This ought to go to your local newspaper for publication.

Based on the poor grammar and random capitalization, it looks like the dealer acting on its own volition, rather than an MBUSA policy (it may actually be against MBUSA policy). The dealership probably got burned when a repair cost them much more than the initial estimate due to ancillary damage, and it's essentially wiping its hands of the consequences in the future.

What they're really saying is that they don't want your business - owners of older cars are likely more frugal and more particular, the younger techs haven't been trained on them so they're looking things up, making more mistakes, etc., and there's no warranty coverage. It's just not a profitable business, and they'd rather you went elsewhere. It's another reason to take your older car to an indy who knows it better than a new tech, or to DIY.

Yeah, I've been to Mercedes Benz of Westwood for parts before, and they arn't kind to people with older Mercedes, very rude in fact. Its not only myself saying that. I know a few other people who have gone through the same crap.

I can just see Judge Judy (or equivalent) saying "What does this mean? Maybe it makes sense in German?"

I think what the service manager is trying to say is that if the dealer breaks something while removing it, or sees something else wrong while repairing it, then the customer is liable.

Adjusting the valves and breaks the linkage? You pay.
Changing the oil lines and strips the cooler fitting? You pay.

The dealer is basically saying that they don't want to work on old cars because it's harder and they don't want to exercise due diligence - or that they can't pass the cost of "breakage" onto the Corporation under warranty claims.
