e320 air conditioning

Recently purchased a 1994 E320 with 120,000 miles.

Had it checked out prior to purchasing and all seemed fine.

The air conditioner was blowing ice cold for the last few weeks. During a 400 mile trip, it continued to blow but lost the coldness. Over the last couple of days I have noticed that sometimes it work (blows cold or semi-cold) and other times it blows warm. The Check Engine Light is not on.

Any clues?

Thanks

Joe C.

it leaked the refrigerant out - cross your fingers it's not the evaporator.

look into the sight glass in the AC's receiver/drier - if there are bubbles then it's a good indication that you are low on refrigerant.

Have the system topped up and die put in to check for the leak.

Hi Joe,

If you're looking for a good shop in the DC area to service your car, here's one:

RC-Imports
301-762-4205

They're located in Rockville. I've been going to Rick's for ten years now. He's good and honest.

PS I have no financial interest here! :)

Thank you for recommending Ric at RC Imports. I have used him before with my 1991 300E and he has always been fair and honest.

Keep the fingers crossed that it's not a leak at the compressor either . . . those things are pricey new!
