Out on the gun range....
What to do on a nice bright day like today if you live in a ritzy suburb of Columbus that has nothing to do for the 20 and below age group? Why... you go over to your friend's house... ask your dad for the 9mm Glock, the .44 Magnum(circa 1968) and a .45 caliber. Then we drove to the nearest hunting/camping store. Being the genius friend I got... he simply said "I need bullets". I felt embarassed since it made us look bad.... 3 guys walking into a store and ask for a @($&* load of ammunition. Afterwards, we drive way out of town into a middle of boon country. I am surprised to see some really nice houses there for cheap. A house that would cost $300k in boon country would easily fetch $2mil in my neighborhood.
After getting to the place, we meet up with the gun pro, who turns out to be my friend's dad's old co-worker who retired. He was a great guy... showed me some of his "collection" and the ammo he uses. I take a fully loaded gun into my hand, a 9mm glock and prepare to shoot at a bunch of empty cans. This is the first time I was going to shoot a REAL gun. This is far more than the BB's I used to shoot as a kid.. this is the real deal. I was anticipating a good recoil as I saw what happened to my friend, but I guess he's not strong. I let go of the safety... aim and shoot 50ft down the range, and hit the can dead on. I precede the next 3 in a row until I miss. I managed to hit 5 of 7 on my fist round ever. Not bad I thought. Then I upgraded to the .45 caliber. That gun was nice... but I liked the glock better. I hit the same cans over again untill I ran out of bullets. Afterwards I went to the .44 Magnum. That shouldn't be called a gun... but a miniature cannon. Good thing I had a good set of ear plugs or my ear drums would have been shattered. Instead of using cans for this one.. I placed some 1 gallon plastic jugs full of water. When I hit the jug dead on from 50 ft... that thing shattered and went up into the air. Wow... and it had a massive recoil too. We went through 150 bullets in under 1 hour... but boy was it fun. First time I went shooting, too. I guess I am turning to a redneck each day I stay in this state;) :D I made a promise not to join the NRA, *hoping I don't break it* |

Snibble, that sounds really fun. Say, how's the place in Powell? We just moved to the Dublin area. ... I'm waaaay out of practice, though, so I should take some courses before doing anything ... :o

People, THIS, is the reason we need gun control!
;) :D I'm just kidding. Go buy more bullets. Take a safety course. |

Many range/shooting safety courses are also a helluva lot of fun and you'll learn a TON more than just muzzle, trigger, etc. http://dehlta.50megs.com |

My friend said the .44 magnum is the most powerful pistol. Is that true? |

Many rifle cartride pistols that trump the 44, but those above for "pistol calibers." |
9mm, 45, and 44 magnum. better than what i started out handgunning with... a ruger mark 2 22LR. But then I took a saftey course so I could shoot handguns at the local range, I've been going there almost weekly.
Good luck with it. Don't get caught. spencerbandit88 I used those guns in the course (except the 44 mag) I liked the 45 better. |
The IMI Desert Eagle was the most powerfull handgun I thought?

Well, the most powerful handgun depends upon wether you consider the Thompson Contender to be a handgun or not. The biggest one they come in is .45-70govt ( ). But I can find you a revolver that does that...

I forgot to mention the .480 Ruger, which is made from a cut down .45-70 brass.
You can also get Contenders in .308, and get custom barrels in other calibers like 8mm Mauser, .30-06, .30-40Krag, and a few others. I dont know about you, but my 8mm bruises my shoulder after a few rounds, I would hate to see the damage on my wrist. |
Man, you guys really like to hurt yourself.
|
Not me. My 10mm is giving me Carpel Tunnel as it is... :(
