Depends on a lot of factors. Personally, if I had $35,000 to spend, I wouldn't spend it all on one car. You can get 2 or 3 very nice cars for a lot less than $35,000. What are your needs?

Jeeze! If I were 21 and had that much to spend on a car, I'd have a tough time picking just one. Maybe a nice 'ol early 90's 300Z twin turbo and a decent used early 90's 300CE Sportline.
howzat sound?

Spend 4 or 5 k on a totally pristene example of a W126 300SD with the 5 cylinder engine, and stick the other $30k into the bank for a down payment on a house in the future.

Buy a nice 1997 E420 for $15k-$20k and put the rest in the bank or invest it somewhere. But $35k will get you into a W220 S500 if you like the S-class.

Get a C5 Vette - I would.

wait this is a Benz form so you are probably thinking of a Benz...

Can only get a C-Coupe brand new.. and honestly I'd rather drive that new Scion tC for half the price.

A used CLK430 perhaps? cool looks, great sound

if I had $35k right now I'd go hunting for that perfect 500E / E500.

Hell, for that kind of scratch you could go find a rusted old '29 Ford and turn it into a SWWWEEEEEEEEETT hot-rod, and still have enough left over to insure and fuel the thing at least once. I kid you not, its cheaper to build your dream car these days than buy one.

Personally, if I had $35k worth of car money that was burning a hole in my pocket and could not be extinguished, I would go get a nearby Unimog and fix it up, and get a tip-top condition 1991 560 SEL, and then a Honda Shadow 600 and slap some pipes and a custom seat on it, for the gas mileage.

Whatever you do, get something that you will like, and dont spend all of your money. Even if you dont get a newer (95 and newer) MB, some of your $$$ will need to be saved for repairs. Being broke and having a dead car is no fun, believe me. BTDTGTTS.

Set some money aside for a house, in an account just for that, set up an IRA and contribute EVERY YEAR, buy an inexpensive W124 300D or 300E and fix it up. Buy a good E class that's not a wreck.

Cars loose value, houses and land does not.

Put money in a mutual fund and expect that it can go up and down, but generally up. Think long term. You're only 21, there'll be lots of cars later.

Get a used Brinks truck with a 3208 Caterpillar turbo diesel and an Allison 6 speed automatic. It's for Los Angeles area transportation, right?

The benefits:
They last a long time.
The airconditioning is GREAT, front and back.
Bostrom air seats. Very comphy. Nice "above the crowd" view.
They look pretty damn good after a collision, unless it's a train collision
You can play "concert loud" music inside without distrubing others.
You won't hear other peoples music being forced on you.
It has gun ports. Handy for those fits of road rage.
Bullet resistant glass. Screw those truckers dripping rocks and gravel.
Cops usually ignor them unless you block parking at a donut shop.
Someone might mistake your truck for a real one and deposit money. :p

The drawbacks:
Someone might try to kill you if they thought your truck is real.
