Need some computer gaming help

I purchased the youngest son the game Battlefield 1942 to play on the PC. When I tried to load it it would only go so far and then would say something about missing media. I am pretty certain that it is not finding the video driver card to play games with. The cards required are: NVIDIA GeForce4, GeForce3, Geforce2, Geforce 256, ATI RAdeon 8500, Radeon 7500, ATI Radeon or Matrox Parhelia. Wellllll, can anyone tell me which, of the above listed cards, would be the best one to put in the computer? Also, I looked on ebay and say a few of them for sale. Will these replace my current video card when/if I get it?

I am running Windows XP and the RAM, harddrive, etc. is robust enough to run the game software except for this. Also, where do I find out what kind of card is in there now? I am guessing by opening up the computer and reading off of it. Any and all help will be appreciated but please keep the explanation simple.

I have been putting off getting the gaming stuff going on this computer because he is going to be wanting to be on the same time I am for awhile anyway.

My ATI Radeon 9600 combo card is awesome for the $250 price. I get great TV on my PC with it too, and it comes with its own cable TV decoder, so you don't need another cable box if you want to watch TV on it. The GeFroce stuff is what I replaced with it - I was having to many lock up problems, on two different GeForce cards, but the ATI has been problem free. My theory is that probably due to the fact I have an AMD processor, and ATI works better with those than GeForce for some reason - my son uses the NVIDIA cards in his P4 and did not have the problems I had.
