Some years ago, I was at an estate sale which had a nice copper casket for sale (unused near as I could tell). While I walked around for a minute or two deciding whether to buy it or not, someone else snatched it up. I have always regretted that missed opportunity. It would have made a great coffee table and final resting place.

When I first came across the Costco casket story, there was mention of other companies that sell home furniture such as bookcases etc that can be converted to caskets when the need arises. That strikes me as a creative option.

Given Costo/PriceClub's excellent warranty program, wouldn't you hate to be the employee at the Returns Desk on that fateful day when . . .

The funeral business is facing an economic makeover. Twenty years ago, cremations were three in a hundred, now they're three out of ten, with a average cost difference of $600 versus $6K for a full blown casket funeral. Some funeral sales folks have even been known to show customers, some of them with recent losses, pictures of the cremation process, to sway them to caskets and burial.

A buddy of mine has a '71 caddie hearse, and has been looking for a casket to complete the package. I'll have to drop him an email :D
