The Cure

Is anyone here into the Cure? If you are and haven't checked out their new self-titled album, YOU SHOULD. It's amazing. Easily their best album in the last ten years. I picked up a copy from UMG a awhile ago and I'm still listening to it constantly. I highly suggest that everyone go out and get this CD.

I did hear they had a new album out. Was wondering if it was up to their standards. I enjoy their style alot.

Especially during our long, dreary, rainy winters here

I was at their recent show in my area. They were great, Interpol was great. I was a little depressed as Muse failed to show up for some reason or another, and out of the bands I was into on that tour, they were the one act I hadn't seen live yet. Haven't heard much off the new album, but they played a few new tunes and it sounded pretty spot on.

I thought it was sort of funny, in a recent interview that Robert Smith still asserts that neither he nor his band are not and never were "goth".

I think they had their "look" way before goth became a thing, didn't they? I seem to remember they were unique when they first appeared back then. But maybe goth was still kinda underground then too.

Not much of a Cure fan myself, but my girlfriend has been a hopelessly devoted fan for many years, so I took her to see them here in NY. I was suprised at the musicianship that the whole band showed, quite a good performance. It sounds to me like Robert Smith has been listening to alot of NIN judging by the new album, not really that impressed with it.

As a side note, I was blown away by Interpol. I had never heard them. I bought their CD the next day, but they are definetely a band to be appreciated live. Does anyone know when their new album is coming out? Maybe they will be represented better this time. Are they from New York?

well I finally get to see The Cure tomorrow. It sounds like they putting on a great show. Im really interested in Interpol now. Thanks for telling me about them. BTW you should listen to The Cure album a few times before judging it. It really grows on you. Also, did u know that AFI is doing a cover of a NIN's song. I think they're one of the bands that can do that and keep the powerfulness of the song.

You'll love them live! Saw them at Jones Beach about 3 years ago. One of the best live bands out there. Rob is amazing, talk about consistancy

Assuming you saw the show at the Tweeter Center in Chicago, I can explain the absence of The Muse from the lineup. I am a supervisor at the theatre, and the day of the show, one of the band members managed to injure himself to the point where he could not take the stage. As for the set by the Cure, I was unimpressed. Perhaps it was the depressed crowd, but the music simply did not do anything for me. I want music that is more interesting as opposed to bland and monotone.

One of my favorite albums is "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me".

I am glad to hear he has put out a great album again, I'll have to go pick it up.

I saw him one night and he looks like he has been eating lots of icecream. But his hair and makeup are the same. I wouldn't recognize the guy any other way. He looked like that back before "goth" was called goth. I'd hate to see him change his looks. Even if he does look a little silly now.

Can you describe the style of music in this album? Lots of guitar? Techno? Inudustrial? Which way is it leaning? Or is it a little bit of everything?

I can't believe I'm commenting on The Cure on a Mercedes Benz web site!
I love The Cure!
Does anyone know of the song that says "and you're all dressed up like The Cure"?

Thanks

Anna

Yeah, I picked up the Disintegration CD from high school when HP started using the "pictures" song in their commercials. It brought back fond memories of high school. I did not know a new cd was out. I will check it out tomorrow

later,

I went to my first Cure concert around 1984, they were with the B-52's... great show.

I will definitely pick up their new CD.

On the retro subject Ian Mccullochs new stuff is pretty good.
