I would kill for one!! Quiet, FAST and tight. Has a OM60x type diesel clatter but pretty quiet. No smoke, but you definatley smell diesel smoke (a biggie for me). The turbo sounds great at all times.. you don't really hear it in the 617 and other 60x engines but this one you definately do.

Now why would you want to go and torture yourself like that?

I don't even like seeing them on the highway for the lustful feelings they inspire in me.....

I'll probably get one when they have 30 or 50 thousand miles them.

You diesel people are all the same, my dad said that very same thing, last week! :D

Very nice John! Gotta tell you though, you should drive my 300 SD some time, you can hear the turbo on my OM617 every time I pull away from a stop.

You hit the nail on the head... Maybe by that tim ethe difference in price between the E320 (gasoline) will have diminished.

Then again, I wonder who will come up with a tutorial in disabling the CCV and EGR :-)

Those have the same engines as the Sprinter don't they? So, there have to be quite a few available with 50k miles already. Find a wrecked Sprinter and transplant the engine into a 240d.

Krawsczyn 09-01-2004 02:18 AM

320cdi and sprinter are not the same motor

The 320cdi motor is more displacement and cylinder 3.2L 6 cylinder compared to 2.7L 5 cylinder and the 320cdi is also a higher hp to displacement ratio.

When my local dealer started stocking the new E320CDI I RAN down to have a look. It looked great sitting there, black on black, my fave. Then, I got close enough to see the window sticker and I nearly fell onto the CLK sitting beside it. $90,000. yikes!! Our 1998 E300 turbo stickered at $59,999 and with some options was in the low $60's. $90K? Needless to say, I didn't buy it.

I had a chance to drive one and was definitely impressed with the way the engine performed. My only disappointment was how light the steering was. Expensive, but they did a nice job on it.

Hatterasguy 09-01-2004 01:24 PM

$90k wow  The dealer by me had one for $54k, my friends E300D sold for high $40's new.

turbodiesel 09-01-2004 01:29 PM

That's $90k CAD.

300 sdl

Man what i'd give for that car...., but i'll drive my nice, in great condition 300 SDL for now. It cost 57k brand new back in 1986. I'll have to wait and get a CDI when it gets about 100k miles on it.
