San Francisco Chronicle

Hey-

The SF C isn't my favorite paper, but this article has an interesting perspective from The Left Coast.

Ciao

...I'm in general agreement with that article. The Dems are destined to continue losing because they don't stand FOR anything these days...except that they're not Republicans. It's quite sad really.

I agree with you, Z.

My big hope (that is, my long-term wish) is that either the Repos or Demos will implode from internal inconsistency. I was very impressed by both parties this year on this particular point: They were able to prevent internal descension from causing external fissures. This is remarkable coherence. I think its less because of differences between the parties than because of a general uneasiness, fear, apprehension, whetever. Folks tend to overlook differences when threatened by an outside force. In this instance, both parties benefited from that unease. I wonder if it's cynical--that the powers within each party magnify the minor differences between parties such that the Faithful gather to protect the local deities.

My hope is that one or both parties will become so nebulously defined--a big tent run amuck--that one or other will burst in a spasm of mutual internal revulsion. If either party disintegrates I believe the other will become unstable, finally destroying itself, also.

From the twin dissolutions, the citizens may benefit. Or lose everything. That's the problem with revolutions--sometimes folks screw things up pretty badly.
