Do you give him the nod?
When you're driving along, and you see another guy in a "near-vintage" MB, do you give him the nod?
Everytime I see an older Gentlemen (one who should be posting in this great forum) in another W124 (especially the Wagons, those guys are hardcore,) I try to acknowledge them to let them know: "Hey, It's not just a hand-me-down, I attempt to learn my stuff and take care of it! You guys give the salute to fellow MB "Antiquer's?" Because you should!! We're all a big happy family! Hah oh man thats sappy stuff I just wrote.. So do you?

Oh definitely. However I don't usually get one back. My 300D is as ratty and rusty as they get, with liberal pinko stuff all over the back:
"Powered by Blue Sun Biodiesel" A fish that says "PHISH" A fish that says "DARWIN" A sticker that says "Biodiesel: We don't need tanks to fill my tank" And a bumper sticker that says "KGNU. Community radio by the people, for the people" And I smoke at idle badly, but it smells like french fries.

I was extremely suprised the other day when in NJ another 124 driver (old indian guy) flashed his headlights and gave me a wave. Made my day. Usually the only time someone aknowledges you in NJ is to flip you off or blankly stare at you.
Most of the other 124's around here are pretty tatty, so I don't bother giving a wave. If I see a classic SL, 126 or 123 I usually give a wave- those seem to be better looked after in general.

The diesel guys just suck on their pipes and ignore us SL guys. Even MB's, if they run on something other than recycled crank case grease, are beneath them. The other gassers give us the thumbs up, which we always return.

Funny you mention that. I found myself behind a 300D turbo much like mine driving into the parking garage this morning, and engaged the guy in a little conversation in the elevator. He wasn't effusive by any means, but I did fish out of him that his is a 1984, has 300,000 miles, and he's owned it for almost ten years. He drives it 80 miles a day. It was kind of cool There's another guy on my floor driving an early-80s 300SD, I know, I keep meaning to talk to him about it when I run into him.
On the road, I don't tend to wave, and have yet to get waved at by any other drivers, but I do always take a pass and have a look at their car if traffic allows. On the other hand, almost all motorcyclists wave at each other, and I enjoy that aspect of riding a lot. |

I tend to work my finger out pretty well, I gave up trying to wave most people would give me the blank "do I know you look." Although a nice 300SEL was playing with me on the highway the other day.
