"Invading Iraq to create a crucible for terrorism where none existed before"

That was not the reason Iraq was invaded, and even the most ardent Bush haters cant seriously expect themselves to be taken seriously if they espouse it.

"or as an example to others contemplating or continuing an active role in terrorism is utterly immoral on every level if that's what you're suggesting."

Say you. That is what I'm suggesting and obviously I completely disagree with you on the moral slant.

"That has the sordid ring of "the end justifies the means".

The end always has, and always will, justify the means.

"Iraq was a minor player in the terrorism game, and that was twice removed and aimed exclusively at Israel. They posed no imminent threat to the West and played no part in 9/11."

Probably true. But once again that's only relevant if you dont regard this as a war but simply a minor criminal inconvenience.

"As I understand it, the main thrust of Z's argument is that we hold a certain level of accountability for what has befallen us,"

I think that's his thrust too. It's typical of leftist thought, and has been since the 60's. It's also complete BS in my opinion.

"and that we need to acknowledge and address that fact in addition to zealously pursuing the perpetrators of these terrorist acts."

Well, obviously we shall eternally disagree.

"Fear-based solutions do not endure.

As I stated in my previous post I do not expect "Fear based solutions" to be solutions at all. There is no solution to this in your lifetime, or mine, or any child's currently living. This will take the better part of a century at least.

- Peter.

...now I'm more confused than ever. Didn't Bush claim that God wanted him to be his right hand man on earth?

Here you go: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/5/21/13392/6893

I don't mean to imply that all of Bush's religious support comes from Reconstructionists, but Rushdoony has a lot of followers in the religious right.

Ah -- a true Machiavellian -- now I understand.

I do believe that people on this planet have the right to live their lives free of heavy-handed U.S. influence/interference if they so choose. Yes, we shall eternally disagree.

I have got some news for you: when I was an Army General Staff Officer during the CLINTON years, we were planning and training for all of this. None of this s**t is new, we have known the threat for years, it is just that 9/11 jump-started it....

Actually, I've heard that line of reasoning from Bush supporters rather than detractors.

You don't have to shake it all that hard. Choosing a Mideast locale to draw terrorists is one of countless excuses I've heard to rationalize the spending of my hard-earned money in Iraq.

I want to hear how the author can support that statement. And yes, in my opinion it is patently immoral, but that's just coming from a citizen of the country that supposedly defeated facism in Germany.

We must destroy Islamofacism by whatever means necessary. The entire western culture is threatened by this movement. It is growing and must be stopped, unless you want your childern and grandchildren being called to prayer three times a day. Iraq has become a great killing ground for these saps. They come from all over the middle east and we kill them, pretty simple premise. America is committed to winning this war, and it will span the globe and last a long time, get used to it and get behind it. There is nothing more important right now.

Hey, where the hell is my peace dividend anyway?

...another Cold Warrior comes out of from the Bushes. Masters of histrionics and hyperbole one and all...I hear they're throwing infants out of incubators too.
