How do you max out your vehicle?

Since I really dont like tickets (or jail), I cant test out my car on the highway. Where can I do this? Do you think a local municipal airport with low traffic would let me in? Its runway is about 1.5mi long.

it can only be done in rural areas with little traffic enforcement.

like say from palm springs to phoenix.

don't ask me how i know.

and while i didnt max my car out, i kept it to about 120 for quite a while, and watched the fuel gauge walk from right to left. i didnt want to go much over that because i have H rated tires on the car, and i didnt want them overheating. also the tires were cheap tires (VISA ) that the previous owner installed to sell the car.

thats one ridiculously strong 260E, in light of the fact that it needs a head rebuild.

Race tracks generally don't have main straights long enough to really wind out a street geared car. Bonneville, during the timed sessions, would be the ultimate.

Want to drive flat out on a public road?

Silver State Classic Open Road Rally

These events have equipment and safety standards so be prepared to spend a few hundred dollars on upgrades in addition to entry fees.

A friend lost control of his BMW 850i at about 135mph and went off-road at 100mph during a Nevada rally this May. His car is history but, mainly due to safety equipment, he is OK and his navigator/girlfriend only suffered whiplash. Another Porsche Turbo driver went airborne at 160mph last year and rolled 3X. He and his wife sustained serious injuries and will not race again.

If you're only talking 100mph or so, its probably no big deal. But if you have sufficient power, I hope that road has no traffic, no wildlife, no debris, no curves, no wind and you have no problems when you "punch it".

Howdy All,
I can go a couple miles and be on the dry lake. If Kitty O'Neil can do 350mph on it I figure I can do 100mph

Come on, I cruised from Colorado to Toronto between 90 and 105 for most of the way. In my old w116 painted in black primer, cops cruising the other way didnt bother turning around. Watch the oncoming traffic, some decent people warnyou of speed traps ahead. Also watch for people randomly slamming their brakes ahead of you. Other than than, pedal to the floor and hope for good brakes.

Good luck and be safe

Listen to what he says!

You have no idea how hard a stray dog hits at 140 mph -or a cow for that matter.

I have to admit that when i've had the freeway all to myself in the middle of the night, i have made some full throttle runs going home from work. (60 miles)
It is a great feeling, but there's NO room for errors or unforeseen events. So take care..

at 3am?/!???!?!! can you say overdriving your headlights?????? I've topped out my old SD many times(can't really brag about 105mph tho), and gotten my integra up to 128 once(i think thats all she had). Neither one of those events would i ever consider doing at nightime, I take it you havn't ever come flying up on debris in the middle of the night that even at 60-70 you had a hard time avoiding. Please dont' max out your car at night....thats just asking for it.

Well I'm talking from the viewpoint of my diesel, 120 is about all she's good for. If I had something fast I would do it on a track.

Did anyone see the show on the History channel about the Autobahn? It opened with a Porsche 911 modified by Ruf doing 202mph on the Autobahn at night! The driver was crazy the headlights were like little candles at that speed! He was passing cars and big trucks to!

On a side not make sure your car is in good shape, the tires should have the proper speed rating and be perfect, the brakes should be perfect, not to mention the wheel bearings and flex discs. Things are moving fast and if something brakes your in trouble.
