Tomorrow is 9/11 Attack Anniversary

No matter if you are Republican or Democrat, Libratarian or Socialist, let us not forget what happened three years ago. Don't forget all those who lost their lives while just being regular folk at work and those who lost their lives trying to save them. We are Americans and this was an attack against all of us.

RIP: LTG Timothy Maude, US Army, soldier, scholar and all around great man.

Amen.

I'd also like to point out that my twin babies are also celebrating their first birthday tomorrow. :p

There were citizens of 115 nations killed that day. The criminal attacks of 9/11 represent a global tragedy, not just an American loss.

We should honor 911 by banning all political discussions from the forum for the day. Starting a thread with the notice of a ban should do the trick. all in favor, say aye.

Alright -- who are you and what did you do with KV? ;)

...how would you define "political"? Partisan political? Policy political? What?

kott 09-10-2004 01:41 PM

I'm sure many of us can 'play this game', seeing as NY is a big place for business, and the WTC had a lot of tenants: I was on the 24th floor of the second building hit, ..... fortunately, it was 7 years earlier, about a year after the first bombing. Thinking back, though, makes it one scary idea. The second building's occupants fared better, but what if no one had had an inkling to evacuate? Just sitting there, watching, sympathising, and then suddenly... my heart goes out to all who suffered and suffer to this day.

Jake 09-10-2004 01:44 PM

aye...

Its like the guy said about porn, I can't define it but I know it when I see it. I mean just not discuss the election or the war, essentially. Those have got to be the two most divisive subjects.

Actually, I would love to see them junk Labor Day or some other useless hoilday for a National Unity Day. Labor Day always seems a little divisive anyway - we don't have a Poor Guy Without a Job Day or a Rich Guy Day. There should be one day set aside where Americans stop and reflect on national unity.

Independence Day won't cut it? For my money, we have to many holidays as it is.... In fact let's combine Mother's Day with Labor Day. Kinda works, doesn't it?

Also, wouldn't it be nice if on Memorial Day, everyone actually pondered the sacrifices made to keep them free, instead of just seeing it as a day to go shopping or get drunk while by the barbeque?

OK by me. It should be easy though, as I'll be at the racetrack all day. :D

Zeitgeist 09-10-2004 02:05 PM

...Labor Day should just be moved back to its original May 1st MayDay date, before it was co-opted and denuded of all relevence. But, I digress...I promise not to post at all in the Open Discussion section tomorrow, therefore avoiding politics altogether.
