Lexus SC 300 Info?
A friend of mine just picked up a '97 SC 300 5-speed with the intention of modifying it into a mean little coupe. From what I understand, the powertrain is identical to that of the naturally aspirated Supra from those same years.
Wondering in any of my brothers here at the 'shop have any info on these cars or perhaps links to resources similar to this one? I've been googling around on it and have thus far had very limited success. |

Probably the single best automotive bargain out there. Bullketproof, comfortable, fast and cheap. As soon as I get more room in the driveway I'm buying one.

I've dug into the SC300 a bit, as I'd love one myself. Yes, they're nothing but a redressed Supra. The SC300 has same engine, just detuned a bit from what I read. You can save a bundle of $$$ by buying drivetrain and suspension parts at the Toyota dealer rather than the Lexus dealer.
I have a web site bookmarked at my computer at work, but I won't be back to work until monday.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info.
Rick-let me know on Monday, very cool stuff. So far the plan is to buy a wrecked front clip from a supra and switch everything over. It's a pretty cheap way to get a six speed, 320 hp near luxury coupe. Considering the car itself goes for 10-15K, a good clip with ECU and wiring can be aquired for less than 5K, this could be a relative bargain. I read on intellexual.net that all of the supra suspension bits, including all the nice aftermarket coilovers and what not bolt right in. Who knows, a basically new Supra without the look-at-me styling and a nice interior for less than what 100,000 mile mk4 Supras are going for. |

That's pretty much been what I've been reading lately. The crowd seems a little "rice" (not a racial term), as in, there's a lot of "what intake should i get", or "this body kit looks phat". Not as bad as some of the drivle I get on the Rx7 boards, but still a marked step down from the average level conversation here. I guess I'm just spoiled.

Just curious why someone wouldn't get a Supra and be done with it. The SC back seat isn't a lot more useful than a Supra back seat. SC does have a somewhat useful trunk.

I personally LOVE the styling of the Supras, minus the rediculous spoiler on the trunk. Theyre sharp little cars that look the part. The SC is a bit dry looking in my opinion. But to each their own.

Supra's are cool but NSX's don't cost much more. By that time a Lotus Esprit (sp?) isn't much more.
