Arafat dead at 75

Just heard on the news that Yasser Arafat died today. Can't find an online article yet...my guess is that it either just happened or was just officially announced, so nothing's been put up yet.

Just FYI...

Finally -- a first step toward peace in the Middle East.

Long overdue! Good riddance! I hate to "celebrate" the death of another human, just on principle....But he was deserving of a much worse fate....death is too kind for that man.

Regardless, it almost inspires me to throw a party in celebration!

Now PERHAPS there's a chance of Israel and the Palestinians working out their problems.....I'm not holding my breath.....but I'm crossing my fingers.

May he roast in peace.

Finally.

And to think that they actually gave that piece of $h!+ the Nobel Peace Prize many years ago!!!

The value and meaning of that award was certainly diminished on that day, to say the least!......

May he NOT rest in peace.

KV and Mike agreeing on something...the stars must be "right" ;)

Seriously, good riddance to him...maybe, if the Palestinians get more moderate leadership, something could actually be worked out between them and Israel...

Q Where's Yasser.
A He sleeps with the virgins.

I've lost all respect for the Nobel Prize since Arafat AND Jimmy Carter got it, I see a trend emerging.

Wasn't Kissinger also a recipient?

no idea if Kissinger did, but I don't care for Mr. Carter. I think he was doing best with building houses, not politics.
Thanks
David

Scum is scum no matter what side of the political spectrum you are on. The guy dies with a billion dollars in the bank that he stole from the poorest people on earth, he's never had anything to offer to the world's worst problem other than violence and blood, and he derailed the peace process because he refused to renounce advocating the destruction of Israel - the only condition he had to meet to get 95% of his people's land back. How a guy who would not renounce war got awarded a Peace Prize is beyond amazing - it was a criminal act by the Nobel people, and I agree with the other poster that it has cheapened and demeaned their prize - especially since he did little to stop the senseless suicude bombings that killed so many innocent people after he got the damn thing, never mind the fact that he probably helped plan the attacks. Given the tactics of the Palestinians, I think the Israelis have every right to cap as many of these guys as they can get their hands on, and its too bad Arafat missed a painful death at the hands of the Israelis. Maybe now some kind of peace can come to this place.

As far as Mr. Carter goes, the man has spent most of his life trying to bring peace and justice to this planet by actually practicing the teachings of Christ, something very few "Christians" in this world actually do. I can't think of a guy who deserved it more.

No, actually that's a mis-translation. It's "sturgeons", not virgins.

:D

Did anyone see the reports that he has been through billions of dollars while his people have suffered the way they have? He was reported to have been worth $5B at one point. Now that he is dead the money has mysteriously vaporized. That may have been the reason for the life support delay, covering the paper trails.
