My stupid printer won't print!

It's me and my crappy computer again.

This time it's the printer, an Epson 820.

Everything is fine until I hit print. Then it freezes the computer. I've tried unplugging every connection and checking that. I even re-installed the software and the computer has found the printer. Still nothing.

Any ideas? I've got to print out invoices for clients asap so I can get PAID!

Thanks!!

bad cable maybe?

Fax the invoices or email them if you have Quickbooks.

It's a new printer that's been working fine for about a year now. Nothing seemed to change-- it just began freezing the computer when I asked it to print.

But my entire computer has issues anyway. I really need to just scrap the hard drive (Millenium Edition) and re-install with XP.

Check Epson's website for an updated driver as well...probably wouldn't hurt.

First off, I agree with Whunter, I would try to intall the most recent driver for your particular printer. THen, if that doesnt work, try reinstalling windows that should clear it up.

Reboot your computer and your printer...
Is the cable plugged in solidly?...
Shut down any other unnecessary software...
Check for and install updated drivers...
Try again...
Try printing something from another application, like print a text document from notepad, which will help rule out issues with your invoicing software...
Are there any error messages? If so, google them...

If none of this works, email your invoices to a friend to be printed :(

Windows reinstallation is such a pain in the ass, I'd save that option until the bitter end :(

Dump ME is right. You shouldn't trust any aspect of your livelyhood to that POS operating system. Flush it! :toilet:

I'm not a computer expert, but from sometimes when I experience a glitch I will do a "disc clean-up" and then defragment the hard-drive. This often clears the problem.

Start > prorgrams > accessories > system tools > disc clean-up/defragment

Also concur that life is much easier with XP vs ME.

Man you've been having a lot of problems with your computer lately haven't you? Here's my suggestion :)

We told him all that months ago. Actually, upgrading ME to XP is a piece of cake. Spend the $200 bucks to buy XP Pro and quit jacking around. All your existing software should run fine with it (heh heh heh). Mistaken Edition just does crap like that. Things just stopping working, and who knows how to fix it - but I will tell you this 9 out of 10 ME problems can be fixed by reinstalling ME again, if you want to continue to cheap out.

Thanks for all the advice, guys (and gal!). I've been in NY on business, so I haven't tried anything yet, but will over the weekend.

I did buy a 256 external mini disc thingy to save all my photoshop and files onto and will try upgrading to XP. I've had the installation disc since I bought this computer but haven't had the cajones to install it!

I found it completely painless, unlike the horrors of previous upgrades.
