Removing motor oil stains from carpet?
 

How would I go about removing motor oil from carpet?

Hopefully you're talking about unused motor oil!!

If that's the case, I'd use any dishwashing soap and clean it by hand. Make sure to thoroughly rinse the soap out, as it will attrack dirt if you don't. Don't worry about getting too much water in the carpet-- dry it with a towel and it''ll be fine.

If it's dirty motor oil, you're hosed. I'd treat it the same way, maybe try some SHOUT or something.'

If all else fails, if you've got some leftover piece of the carpet, cut a circle around the dirty spot and replace it with the new carpet. No one will ever know.

If you don't have any leftover carpet handy, you can cut a circle from under a chair or other piece of furniture that doesn't often get moved. Simply replace it with the dirty piece.

Tide, use liberally, then sell the house. Do you feel like telling us the story of how it got there?

If you are still waiting for different suggestions, then the oil has set to the point where carpet replacement is going to be the only real option!

And STOP changing the oil in your car in the comfort of your living room! I know it's getting cold outside but gee whiz! :uhoh:

Ahh youth – I once had a neighbor in Manhattan Beach that had a Sports Racing Car torn down and spread all over his apartment. I’ve panicked a few times to get cleaned up before the wife got home – using the sink for a parts washer – refinishing boat parts in the living room. I think this happens more in the winter. Wouldn’t a nice throw rug look good there? This is how people get into Persian Rugs

I got some used diesel oil marks on our carpet. Resolve took them out. Whew.

Try to get something that cleans hands like orange blaster, that might work if it works on hands so well. If the stain is partially gone try just dying it back to the original color if you are considering replacement. If it works on cars I detail why wouldnt it work on most carpets.

Regular WD-40 will regenerate a "set" oil stain in fabric.

mineral spirits on a clean cloth and dabbed on the stain followed by Tuff Stuff

Goggle it, there are many ways, Big shop Vac and "DAWN" dish detergent. (Dark carpet you can use "Simple Green" instead of DAWN)
