New News: It's Fats, Not Carbs (you idiots) :)
Eat less, lose weight. Eat more, gain weight. Exercise more, lose weight, sit on your ass, gain weight. Can it be simpler than that?

I am expecting a huge increase in Coronary problems down the road thanks to the Atkins diet.
I wanted nothing to do with it. I have enough family history without begging for more problems. |
A college buddy of mine did Atkins a while back. Now he's on prescription medication for high cholestorol. He's only 39.
My thinking is just to keep everything in moderation. Works well for me. |
Heh; I got 20 missing pounds that say cutting carbs work. Cutting fat works as well, but the secret is that it's much more difficult to stick to a low-fat diet because you feel deprived. Low carb diets leave you feeling sated, so from that standpoint they're much easier to stick to.
I fully expect to have cholesterol problems shortly, though, as it runs on both sides of my family, regardless of obesity (or lack thereof). :P |

I suppose I can't speak from experience on the topic because I've always had a fast metabolism and have to "work" to keep the weight on.... at least for now.
My brother-in-law lost a bunch of weight on Atkins a few years ago also. Like others, the weight came back due to lack of daily exersise. He's my height, but weighs about 50 lgs more than I do at 210. He's pretty down about it, but long hours of work and a family aren't condusive to daily excersise. I'm single, so it's a lot easier to get to the gym daily. |

Turning 40 and getting a double hernia operation does nothing for enhancing your abs! :( |
Narwhal, are you telling me my one point of anecdotal evidence hasn't convinced you to disregard the article completely? Well, heck ;)

Drinking more water and getting more exercise will help in losing weight. Avoid fast food if possible. There's nothing wrong with carbs and starches in a diet, it's just too many carbs and starches with no exercise that result in weight gain.

It would seem like common sense, that fooling your body into thinking it needed to use fats for energy except in an emergency, might have some adverse consequences. Viagra might be useful to cocaine users, but give me a break – does anybody think there won’t be some big problems on down the line. How about plastic surgery – have you ever gone to lunch in Beverly Hills? Scary! So, was Barbara Eden cast as “Genie” because she looked like a fighter pilot babe, or do fighter pilot babes try to look like Barbara Eden?
Is a weaker dollar a good thing? If you give a tax cut and run record deficits are you really give giving a deferred tax increase? Is the secret to a strong economy more credit? Let’s promote the idea for old people to go into debt – take a nice trip – and then go sit by the lake with a big bottle of sleeping pills. |
eactly moderation, and a balanced diet..................along with sufficient exercise.
