Who were you named after?

If you were named after someone, spill and tell a story if there is one. I was actually named after Ronald Reagan. I had no part in that, but I'm proud of it nonetheless, since I've always admired the man.

Mom told me years ago how they came up with my name, but can't remember the story anymore. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't after anyone in the family.
We named our son after an uncle I had that died back in '62. We wanted something different from the usual Tom, Dick & Harry, and I always kind of liked that uncle's name, Vernon. It was kind of a 2-for-one way to go. My uncle's middle name was Charles, which also happened to be my maternal grandfathers first name, so we went with that and made both sides of the family feel important.

...some dude that struck out and crashed a train.

A tradition in our religion is to name a child after a dead relative.

For that reason, believe it or not, my dad didn’t have a first name for 6 years and never had a middle name.

Mine was the only one available at the time.

Hey Z, cool name!

Probably Zeitgeist.

But it would be the Sesame Street character, not the prez.

Oh, having read the posts above, I see I was wrong. He was named for a baseball player.

What did they call him?

Lebenz 11-20-2004 12:49 PM

Well undedrstand I wasn’t there, but the story is that his folks and siblings mostly called him “boy” and doubtless a few other choice terms on occasion. He was a middle child.

When we first PM'd it was a mighty effort on my part to say nothing. I knew you'd heard it all, though for a second I thought you might be having a bit of fun with me.

Then there's our very own Kerry Edwards. he should thank his stars that Kerry didn't get elected. It would never have ended for him.

Botanist at Tulane University, named Darwin. First time I answered the phone when he called I paused a couple seconds just to take that in.

GermanStar 11-20-2004 01:09 PM

My Mormon dentist is also named Darwin. I've never asked...
