The Dems won't go there because they can't stand having opposition.

You know, I've always been something of a rebel, so I'm used to holding unpopular opinions. I figure you fight the good fight, then agree to honor the decision of the majority -- isn't that how democracy is supposed to work? I may not like Bush any more now than before the election, but America has spoken, and I'll just turn my attention elsewhere for a while...

How many dead Iraqi’s would you attribute to Bush I letting the Shiites twist in the wind after the first military exercise in Kuwait, or deaths that could be attributed to the Clinton supported sanctions? Was there anything we needed in Rowanda? How did the democratically elected government of Iran come to be deposed? Who supported the Jehadista’s when they were shooting Russians? Who promoted the idea, built Medrasa schools and sent advisors to their training camps?
Come on, when it’s in our own self-interest we’ll find a reason to look the other way, or to support bad people.

I agree. I was hoping that after the election all this angst, anger, vile and vitriol would subside. I voted for Bush, but I'm more of a Henry Jackson dem (Joe L. would have had my vote) and could have lived with Jean Kerry. Life goes on. Each day the sun comes up (well, not everyday here in the Upper Left Hand Corner.), I go to work, love my family, pay my bills, save a bit and feel good about a whole host of things. There are some worry points, but they don't crowd out the good. I think that sense of perpetual optimism is what separates the middle spectrum of the electorate from the extreme left and parts of the extreme right.

I was glad OD was back up and figured people had chilled, but then the rants starts pretty much where they left off. Sorry, lads but this ain't Germany '35. Our civil liberties aren't being taken away. It's a great country and life is very, very good. I simply don't get these "glass half full, the sky is falling" types. I shake my head at the "the Bush administration is the most radical administration in the history of the US" threads. Based on what they've said? Done? Been accused of thinking about by Maureen Dowd and Paul Krugman? In fact very little changes one administration to the next. The bureaucratic inertia thwarts most creative (or radical) initiatives.

I think anyone who raises the Moveon.org “Bush is Hitler” tripe ought to be banned from posting for a day or two. Not because I believe in denying anyone their 1st Amendment rights, but simply because such language exhibits a reality disconnect and such parties are demonstrating behavior that is not civil. Such incivility weakens and degrades our entire “community of ideas”.

Anyway, as Denis Miller says, “that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”

Ciao for now. Enjoy the holidays. Count your blessing. Love life.

Daayyem, boy. That's so reasonable its scarey. Think it's infectious?

Who's running in 08? Hilary? Guiliani?

I'd like to see Bayh run. But unfortunately, he's too much like Leiberman, a reasonable guy. Can't see the Demos supporting a moderate. I can't think of anybody special on the Repo side. Can you?

I don't care whose side he comes in on -- I'm still holding out hope for McCain.

Democrats are kinda like Cubs fans aren't they? They accept defeat and dissapointment in the hope that the next day will be a better day... after all, there's always next season.

McCain. Hmmm. What I like about him is also a liability: He's not a team player. The result politically might be difficulty in holding his party in check in Congress. Loyalty being a two-way street and all.

OTOH, it might undermine Democrat solidarity sufficiently to form coalition votes. That would be a great outcome: destruction of party discipline in Congress. Okay, I'm warming to McCain.

What do you think about his statements concerning the CIA? He (McCain) came out very strongly in support of Goss' shake-up. Said that CIA played an active role in politics in the recent election by selective leaks and that folks in CIA who did that need to go.

In any other agency politically motivated leaks wouldn't bother me especially. But in an agency with a secret budget and that handles issues of national security, I'd prefer they shut-up and do their job. A secret agency that influences elections is a danger to democracy, IMO.

It will be interesting to watch this unfold.
