How are you guys dealing with Pop Ups

I have tried several pop up blockers, and nothing seems to work.Does any one have a good solution to this problem?

Well, it won't be long before pop up ads get the protection that TiVo, the RIAA and MPAA are clamoring for their commercial ads . . . but until then . . .

Have you tried the Google Toolbar . . . Mozilla's Firefox browser . . . XP Service Pack 2 . . .?

What would we be convicted of if we attacked someone walking out of CompUSA with this tucked under their arms?

It's no longer actively developed or supported, but I still like the Proxomitron (still available here). It's a local proxy server, so it can "rewrite" web pages before feeding them to your web browser. It really cleans up a lot of web pages.

I used it with IE, and I still use it with FireFox. If I think something particular in a web page is "broken" or "missing" because of how the Proxomitron handled it, then only a couple mouse clicks are required to bypass the proxy server until further notice.

Mozilla / Firefox here too, and then to block the windows messenger popups I use Linux and FreeBSD.

Also I make a mental note of which sites try to open the most popups...

I'm running Windows XP, and I recently installed the -free- Service Pack 2 CDROM. It also included the new Windows Explorer 6.0 that contains a Pop Up blocker. No Pop Ups since then.

I'm using the pop up blocker on the XP update too and it is working really well. I have have a spyware sweeper program that is supposed to block stuff too, so with them both on I don't get pop ups anymore.

Thumbs up

firefox

besides a very effective popup blocker it also has many more features and
than IE. mouse gestures is just one bonus that is very convenient.
also use thunderbird for e-mail - excellent junk mail control!

Beside popup's XP is slow, pick up spyware and crashes so get Firefox and end the IE dynasty.
