I think I got scr__ed

I bought a 1985 300TD 2 weeks ago. First repair was to be the hatch struts. Bought them from M Europarts in Miami. I had no problem getting everthing apart in about 30 minutes, but when I went to put the new one in both of the holes are the wrong size. There was a paper tag on the part with the correct part number but no part number on the strut and the brand name is Meistersatz. The auction said no refunds, but the receipt form M Europarts says no refunds or exchanges. Is it possible that this part was updated for later models and kept the same part number? This does not sound like DB. Can anyone help? Is there a source for dependable OEM parts?

have heard of members having problems with that dealer....I have dealt with them a few times...try to contact them and tell them the parts delivered are not what you bought....befause they don't fit. Who knows maybe they will make it good.

Part Number

Have you ever heard of part numbers staying the same but the part changing?

Did you pay for the parts with a credit card?

I have heard of the part not matching what the box said it was from MB. Had that problem with a trim piece 3 times till I got it right. Basically they put a part in the bag that didn't match what it was supposed to be.

If they changed suppliers or the part itself, AFAIK, they change the part number.

Credit Card Payment

You are a smart man! I did pay with a credit card through paypal, so I do have some recourse through the credit card if M Europarts won't make it good.

Who do you buy parts from? In the world of internet "caveat emptor" I think I can believe you guys. Who has good parts for a good price?

First, you have recourse through Paypal. You can file a dispute, which they will investigate. Grounds: merchandise substantially not as described. If that does not work out to your advantage, you can file a dispute with your credit card company. Make sure you can prove that you returned the merchandise.
Of course, before you do any of that, contact the seller and give them a chance to make things right.

Incorrect part

Does anyone know if the hatch strut changed? The new one looks right except that the holes are different sizes. The one for the hatch is too small, (I could bore it) but the one that attaches the strut to the body is too big. Did the special 12 point socket head bolt increase in diameter, and I need to buy new bolts also?

Early Morning

Thank you very much for your help. I am taking the Cub Scouts to the Bronx Zoo in the morning and have to go to bed. This is an invaluable resource.

I buy different things from ebay sellers, but with some sellers in Florida I had problems with the items been misrepresented or exaggerated descriptions of them and never had my right items or parts replaced or my money refunded I also filled complaints at ebay and their “square trade seal” with no results. After contacting my credit card company and after a long wait I had my money refunded by my credit card co. On some of them.
My solution I don’t buy from Florida sellers any more period

Mercantile Europarts

Well it took a while, but I finally got the right part from Mercantile Europarts, and I got refunded for the shipping I paid to have the part returned. I gave them positive feedback on Ebay but would be hesitant to order from them again because of this experience. I had to call two times and ask for the shipping refund, after they said they would give me the refund.

I think the best deal going in parts is Fastlane. I ordered parts to do a front axle brake job, and had acknowledgement in an hour or so, and I know that I am getting all OEM stuff at a great price. Thank you Phil.
