Does anyone own a Roomba?

I've been thinking about getting one of these jewels: iRobot Roomba. Can anyone offer some constructive feedback?

Several of my online friends purchased them when they were on special several months ago and they loved it.

Very cool I'd love to see one in action!

Does this fall under the "no appliances" rule for the ball and chain?

No ball and chain here -- happily divorced. This comes under the heading of "I'm too frickin' lazy to vacuum".......

That's perfectly acceptable IMO. Now if you can get one to suck.....never mind.

Howdy All,
Sure am thinking about one. I wonder about the desert sand that the dogs bring in how often it would have to be emptied?¿

I did a fair amount of research on this a couple of months ago, because I really wanted one for myself (three cats, nuff said), and found that a lot of people were having to take theirs back several times to get a 'good one' that worked, and that the self-charging mechanism some of the newer ones have often don't work reliably. I decided based on what I saw to wait another year and see what came out and whether the new ones would turn out to have better longevityand reliability than the older ones. Plus, other makers are starting to make competing models, which might bring the price down.

If you get one, please tell us how it works out, though. They're the coolest things IMHO, if they work well.

We bought one for my mother last year, and it works great, can get thought 3 or so medium sized rooms on a charge. Every couple of months I recommend cleaning the brushes out as hair and stuff gets wound up makeing it turn slower and lowering battery life as its working harder.
