My Steelers are 11-1
Holy crap.
Not since the 70s has this been a year for the steelers. '95's superbowl was good, but it wasn't looking quite so good. The Steelers have backups at: Quarterback: 3rd string (and a rookie) Nose Tackle Cornerback: 3rd string (and a washed-up has-been former steeler) Right Guard Lots of steelers fans are thinking of the super bowl, but can a rookie really get to and win a superbowl??? That would be a boon Pittsburgh cannot possibly survive... Woo Hoo!!! Go Steelers!

Looks like we got one heck of a playoff game coming up between them and the Pats.

...I was a huge Steelers fan back in "the day" during the era of Mean Joe Green, Swan, Bradshaw, Hamm, Harris, et al. I collected all their trading cards and watched them religiously. Puberty cleared up my obsession, but I still have a soft spot for the boys from Steel Town. Best of luck!

I lived in Dallas in those days. The rivalry between those two teams was responsible for some of the greatest Superbowls ever. Those were the greatest days of football. Staubach and Bradshaw dueling it out was a sight to see.

I can't believe that a rookie QB is going to lead to the superbowl. I guess it is possible, but it's so unlikely...
The Colts' offense is rediculously in tune right now, and I would not want to meet them in a playoff game. I think the Pats, Colts, and Steelers are the teams to beat right now. I hope a wild card team can surprise the colts... Eagles seem to be in a class of their own in the pathetic NFC. It's wretched to be in Atlanta and to listen to the crappy falcons-fans whine. I used to run into Louis Lipps at a restaurant where I grew up. He'd be out with the family at the Ground Round. My folks would be paying for my meal by the pound... but the family playoff memories are priceless. I still have an irrational hatred of the cowboys. Seems the Steelers usually have their number though- except the give-away superbowl of '95... ugh.

Also, if you grew up in Pittsburgh as I did, you'd know that fan-hood only blossoms in one's late 20s, and becomes a controlling interest (and, happily, a subject for conversation with one's pittsburgher aging parents) as the years pass.

Mine was a long-distance love affair, during my days in Spokane Wa. T'was somewhat diminished by the emergence of a local team (Seahawks), but their flame never shone as bright as my first love...and absolute hatred of the vile contemptible Cowboys -- ssssssssssssssssss grrrrrrrrrrrrr ssssssssssssss

strangely, I've always had a soft spot for the seahawks...
I lived in SF when the Raiders moved to LA, but couldn't get excited about the 49ers even with Montana... The steeler fan-hood is involuntary. A time-release mind-control drug is put in the water... I'm convinced. k

What makes you think Ben was at 3rd string?

At training camp, there was:
Tommy Maddox named starter Charlie Batch named 2nd Brian St. Pierre Ben Roethlisberger Charlie went on IR, bumping Ben to #2, and then they started looking around for another guy... but when Tommy went down vs. the Ravens, the panic attack hit and they brought in Quinn. Now, they are back to Roeth Maddox St. Pierre But, he was supposed to be the 3rd stringer this year, absent injuries. Their plan was to sit him like the Bungles sat Carson Palmer.

How smart do the Bungles look now? I'm sorry but Ben would be hurting if he was playing for some of the teams the other rookies play for. Ben has game, no doubt, but he is in a very controlled situation. Cracks me up all the people that judge the rookies. How quickly we forget Peyton went 3-13 as a rookie. As for the Dolts, the Steelers should be able to handle them easily. Peyton can't beat you if he doesn't see the field. I don't see beating the Pats though. Dillon is back and you don't beat Belichick twice, he will find a way. Can't knock the Steelers though...good team.

My favortites were Staubach, Robert Newhouse, Charlie Waters, and Ed, "Too-Tall" Jones. No one could jump like Lynn Swan of the Steelers. The rivalry was classic! Football isn't the same thing today, so I rarely watch.
