Turkey or Ham?

Alright -- time to forget all this trivial political crap and move on to something more important. What will your family serve as the main course for your holiday dinner this year?

Latkes. Shredded potato and onion, bound with eggs and matzo meal, salt and pepper. Shaped into small patties and fried in oil, it's a traditional Channukah dish. We modified ther recipie a bit, and instead of making lots of little patties, we make a skillet sized latke "pie" and then cut it into wedges, using less oil in the pan. To flip it, you put a dinner plate over the pan when the bottom is well browned and set, and invert the latke onto the plate, then slip it back into the pan to crisp up the other side. Serve with applesauce or sour cream.

Just bought a leg of lamb and a bone-in rib roast. Haven't decided which to cook yet, but it will be Yorkshire Pudding with either.

Med Mech:
Have you read about the 2 (?) Wisconsin (?) hunters who had yearly ritual venison dinners and who died of Mad Cow (deer?) disease? It was a hot topic around here a few years ago when Wasting Disease became endemic in our deer herds on the eastern side of the state. I had a friend who had eaten nothing but deer shot on his own property for probably a decade and when they started testing, his region had the highest infection rate. Not a pleasant thought.

My ma-in-law started doing a ham for Christmas dinner some 10 or 12 years ago, and the family about had a revolt! (I guess she just got tired of doing a turkey) So then she started doing one of each, and that settled the dust.
But she's moved away, so we do our own thing now, and it's a turkey for us.
