Are you giving or getting a Christmas bonus?

After 20 years in business we have seen where we cannot give the Christmas bonus and party we usually give. Profit margins are so slim, we wonder if we will be in business next year. Just wonder what it's like across the country. And I don't blame Bush,,,,, if anyone is to blame it would be me.

I have yet to work anywhere that gives Christmas bonuses. It's been several years since I worked somewhere that had a Christmas/Holiday party! I was asking a coworker if he'd ever worked somewhere that had an actual company Christmas party, and he responded that he thought it was one of those 'traditions' that only survives on television.

At a company where I used to work, we once received bonuses on Christmas eve (based on profits during the previous year). I had only been there for half a year, but was still allowed my "full share". I was stunned to receive a bonus equal to almost 30% of my gross annual salary.

One year later, we each received a ham.

The profit margins of the company I work for are definitely slimmer than last year.

They kept our Christmas bonus the same, but instead of a party on a yacht, cruising around Newport Harbor, one of the owners held the party at her house.

We had a good time, though. They had Mexican food catered, and had live music with dancing.

My wife and I slipped out early and went to our hotel room, and had the best sex we've had in a long time.

I've never worked for a company that didn't give a Christmas bonus, but last year my company was unable to do it. This year we got a decent bonus. We used to have Christmas parties, but the last one our company had was pretty bad, one of the husbands got really liquored up and took a swing at Jeff Bagwell, a guest of the owner of our company.

That probably didn't have anything to do with the bonus but everything to do with the 'stros perfromance during the season.

This year's bonus was 13% of gross pay...and it landed in our laps in the first week of December. Very nice being that it was the first bonus issued since 2001 and, a far, far cry from the $25 WallyWorld gift certificates we were given for X-mas when I was at Martin-Decker/TOTCO.

Both parties and bonus $ abound this year - maybe a changing trend It's nice to know that Uncle Sam shared in my bonus taking $7.6K in taxes out

I feel fortunate to have recieved a bonus for the last couple of years. This years bonus was 5% of my annual salary. We also had a nice dinner at the owners mansion. I our annual company retreat was a couple of weeks ago....I guess that counts also....We went skiing in vermont for a long weekend. Good time.

Is there any sort of correlation between receipt of a Christmas bonus or Christmas party with the size of your employer? My most recent three employers have been megacorporations (Coke, Sprint, IBM), and none of them did either. Some of you mention parties at the owner's yacht/mansion, which made me think of it. (My last two employers do give performance bonuses each spring which are tied to personal and corporate measures of success from the previous year.)

$2400 bonus & extras

Christmas party, $2400 bonus, but I also probably get the biggest bonus as the company is paying for my Private Pilot training as well. Then again, I do put more hours in here than most.

It's been a goood year. I just got a 20% raise out of the blue that was retroactive to October. Oh Yeah! Not only that but I'm still eligible for my annual merit increase and my annual bonus will be based on the new pay level (it's 15% of my salary).

We had a department holiday party at the Marriott, a company holiday party at the Hyatt, and a holiday luncheon.

Then we merged with Sprint.

Yes indeed. For the time I'm still a Nextel guy. I figure I've got about 18 months before I have to do something. I'd love it if I could just keep my job out here (DC area). Kansas doesn't sound very appealing.

I work in an area of continuing need (Dispatch engineer - push to talk) but I'm not sure they'll let me stay out here.
