Vasectomy....on it's way....

This feels ike deja vu all over again, to quote Yogi Berra, but I could swear I posted this before.

Anyway, the wife turned 40 last October, I am 39 and we have no plans for any more children.

She has been on the pill for quite some time and we decided it's time for her to get off of it.

I have decided that the safest and less invasive course of action would be to snip myself as opposed to her getting her tubes tied.

Anyone care to share any thoughts?

The procedure doesn't seem so bad, and the recovery time is pretty reasonable, so wtf?

We had two last children before I too the shortcut to happiness.

Been there, done that. there's a moment when you know the snip is coming when some atavistic protohuman response down low in teh spine says, "EVIL!! RUN!!!"

But it's a bargain compared to the price of raising a child.

Or as my wife said, "I prefer the sport's model".

My best friend has a much younger sister who arrived miraculously a couple years after his father had undergone the same. turned out to be a quack doctor, and so her college is paid for...

Hopefully, everything will come out alright.

She and I both were stressed out big time a few months back when she missed her period, which is like clockwork.

We decided to wait a couple of weeks and it finally came.

I was $hitting bricks at the prospect of having a child at 40. That's like a grandkid.

In fact, I was going to let someone else raise him, see him periodically, telling everyone he was my grandson.

Needless to say, celebrated by having some cocktails. I would have celebrated either way, but....yo uguys get the point.

I had the surgery last spring. No big deal, no more kids, no regrets. Good luck to you.

In and out in under 2 hours barring delays or complications. I told him to make sure he brought a pair of big scissors, so as not to cause delays.

I would imagine a tubal ligation would take a lot longer and be more painful and uncomfortable.

Don't even suggest getting a general anesthetic. Local only.
A little burning during the freezing and that was all for me.
They had this wonderful product to protect the area from
infection. It was some kind of spray. I think it was laquer
or another type of paint product. Anyway, it begat some
form of chemical reaction that made the coating harden.
In the process, it either generated a large amount of heat,
severe localized compression forces or both. The pain of
this part of the procedure reminded me of childbirth, which
I had not previously ever experienced. In retrospect, I
would decline this protective coating if given the option.
If not given the option, I would petition to prevent same.
If neither of these worked and the painful product was
administered, I would reciprocate the process to the doctor
to see how he liked it.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT alow the doctor to install vascular clamps on the Vas. This was common back when I did it, 1985. I have a vascular clamp on each side of the cut vas. Scar tissure can develop around the clamp and if you do Tae Kwon Do, like I did, you can pull the vas, or in my case slightly seperate the vas from the testicle, that is if you you are very active.
This also happened to one of the black belts at the Do Jang we attended.
Painful is not the word for it.
It took about 2 weeks to fully heal.
I was ready for my doctor to go in again and cut out the clamps. But he advised against it. If he cut the vein to the testicle, which is very small, and did not realize it I would loose the testicle.
So a little, no a lot, of medicine and time took care of it.

Again do it, I'm glad I did until that high roundhouse kick, But no vascular clamps.

Dave

My last two children arrived in my 40s - I was 48 for the last one, who is two and a half. Best thing that ever happened to me. I swear they keep you younger. The nice part about having them at that age is you really have time for them, since all your party and socializing days are behind you.

I forgot the terminology but he mentioned snipping, then filling the tube with something to be used like a cork, the folding the tube over stiches and cauterization.

Seems painful when you put it that way.
