Aw Mike, say it ain't so. The music sucks but they have the best lyrics of any popular american music. I mean, "All My Ex's Live In Texas", "Grandpa got run over by a raindeer", "Drop Kick me Jesus through the goalposts of life", that's great stuff! Other genre's don't have the cojones for that.

Sometimes rap does some good lyrics, but they usually substitute bad language for lyricism. Blues has soem good lyrics, too. But they usually sound kind of stupid coming off the lips of middleclass white kids from the burbs. And rock music, puh-leeze.

It was "Faster Horses, Younger Women, Older Whiskey, and More Money," from Tom T. Hall, circa 1974.

Country is the last form of pop music left where:

(a) you can actually understand the words being sung;
(b) where the artists actually *dress up* to some degree and try to look their *best* when they go on stage (cf. the deliberate trashiness of the Lavigne chicklet with the class of Faith Hill and Martina McBride); and
(c) which celebrates marriage, masculinity, and fatherhood, at least some of the time.

(Which sort of gets us back on the original topic.)

i stopped intentionally listening to music 20 years ago. it's not that i don't like it. i can't listen to the same old tunes my whole life. i can't tolerate the bulk of the music/"artists" active these days, and am not willing to sift through the dross to find the occasional good song.

nope, i'm a sad, lonely news junkie who won't even go to the movies anymore. whata loser......

There's good stuff out there....Unfortunately, you just can't turn on the radio and hear it. There's more talentless crap on the radio than ever before. You have to search around for most of the "good stuff". Most people are too busy, or just plain 'ol too lazy, to do so.

Of course, what constitutes "good stuff" is always a subjective thing....I'm an opinionated, jaded, "been thru the wringer a couple of times" music business veteran, so I guess I'm a little more critical and demanding than most.....

Oops. We have officially hijacked this thread.

Let's try to get back on topic.

I do NOT like women that remind me of my mother. Not because I dislike my mother, but because I REALLY would not ever want to have sex with a woman that reminds me of my mother!

Mike
