Still proving that we'll probably never come close to discovering all the different forms of life on this planet!

Cool..................that last one on first post looks almost like a monkfish........

definately a bit on the bizarre side.

Some of those seriously look like something from the outer limits......

Cool pics, but not due to the tsunami according to snopes. Still, neat pics!

That just goes to show you how strong the forces of that tsunami were. Some of those fish including the one below come from ocean depths of more than 1 - 2 miles down!

I never thought I would see a marinebio thread on a mercedes forum but nonetheless very cool! :) Some of those fish are keyed out but those are all benthic fish , far below the sunlight. That's why the fish exhibit gigantism and are all black or reddish or clear in some cases. I would agree that those fish are way too deep to be pushed to the surface by the tsunami as snopes.com states. But then again new fish are being found all the time because fishing equipment isn't designed to go down 2-3000 feet. There's a lot of cool stuff like that that we used to pull up in the channel between LA Harbor and Catalina Island. Our troll speed was much too slow (2-3kts.) to catch anything quite that big....like that cartilaginous fish/shark Chimaera that the guy in the slickers is holding. That one is huge! :)

If anyone cares I have pictures that I can post of other cool stuff.....like mycid shrimp and jellies, and mantis shrimp (300mph punching ability :D )

Hahaha! Cool pix, but it does seem unlikely to get currents deep enough to turn over the ocean floor.

Dang!! Fooled again. Oh well.....

We never see those fish because they are too ugly and they know it. They hide just like ugly people, but once something unusual happens they come out of their hole to inpect the situation.

Hahahah!

I like the one with the teeth the most. Looks like the creature from Alien.
