What do you think of this?!........
Just picked this baby up - $200! Has only 63,200 org miles, I have already put on 1000.
Guy couldn't get it started and gave up. Turned out to be a frozen fuel line, the water was coming in through the filler neck (right behind the pass FRONT wheel!). Got that all straightened out, tuned it up, new cooling hoses, and a exhaust. After all of this the total comes to about $600, not too bad! They call it a 1971 International 1110 It’s a 304 V-8 with 3 on the tree and NOTHING power. Only one belt for the ALT and water pump!!! (Ok I lied it has one of those electronic musical horns from the late 70's and it works) I only bought it to get around while I get the Benz project completed, so I think it will serve its purpose well. It is ugly, but runs like a top! Even the cig lighter works! At 15 MPG I could be driving almost any SUV and get the same – but I only had to pay 600 one time, not once a month…… Sure haven’t come a long way on efficiency eh? Have any of you seen such a creation - I am young and have never seen anything like it! Anybody know anything about these engines ect? Seems to be allot better built than the American trucks I have seen (steel vacuum lines!!!????) Just a curious piece - I won't do anything else to it but oil changes and sell it.

I'm old, and remember when there were all kinds of these on the roads. My best friend bought one brand new way back in '77- very same as yours except it had an automatic and power steering. I'd say keep it- even restore it after you're done the MB project.
I think there was a Diesel version at one time too. You could probably drop in a Diesel engine easily. I have an old book here called "Chilton's Guide to Diesel Cars", and it shows an old Scout that somebody had put a 90 HP 3 cylinder Detroit 2 stroke Diesel into- looked real interesting. Yes restoring this would be fun, but I don't think I should get into this one. The more I drive it the more I love it.... I would like to find one with 4 doors. I know they exist, I ran into a fellow with that model - A short bed 4 door!
WAIT - but I thought detroit just came up with that? This one however I think should go to a purist - I would end up putting a 617 into it and everything is so perfect (mechanically) I couldn't see tearing it all apart... All that and I have to go into the military in may so I think the benz will be my last major project- - - at least until I retire..... I will work on my own cars for the rest of my life, but I don't know if I will be doing these frame ups too often any more - just too tiring. I'll stick with electronics as they are much easier to work with than metal. As much as I love getting steel molten hot and shaping it to my desire - I can still do that with plastic eh?

I owned a 65 Travelall Ambulance with the 288V-8 that I used to move from NY to CO. Those engines are really beefy. As I recall, a head from that engine weighed about 3 times as much as a head off a Ford 390.
I may have a water pump for the 288 still hanging around. I bet it would fit the 304. Parts were expensive.
