Motorcycle Headlamp modulators

I've been doing a bit of research on adding a headlight modulator to my BMW so I'm seen better. Old ladies in Buicks are the bane of motorcycle riders.
The device modulates the high beam during daytime only. A light sensor eliminates nighttime use.

I know there's a federal law allowing it that trumps state and local laws.

Does anyone here have one of these devices and if so, what's your experience with them and being stopped by local LEOs?

I don't know where you are but I would be surprised if they were illegal. I've seen cop bikes here with them.

Yeah.. but..

Cop bikes don't get pulled over. It's not a question of it being legal.
I'm trying to find out if anyone who isn't a cop has had this and what their experience is.

Don't have one on my bike, but have read generally positive things regarding their ability to get you noticed. The most significant downside seems to be the false sense of security one may acquire.

On a semi-related note. I occasionally bicycle into the office or to run errands. The headlight I use (15w halogen - bright enough for 20MPH) has a "wobble beam" modulation feature. I use the wobble beam at dusk and dawn. My anecdotal observation is that it really does get you noticed. Automobiles at cross streets pause much longer to ascertain what is coming towards them, and are more likely to let you cross without pulling out. So I have good experiences on a bicycle; can't say with certainty they translate to a motorrad.
