Wood Stoves

What is the life expectency of a wood stove? I have a 1992 Eenergy King from Chippawa (sp?) Manufacturing and it is working fine (77,000 BTUs) but how much longer will it last and is there maintenance that I should be performing to prolong its life?

Posting without authority...here I go...

I've been burning wood for supplemtnal heat for about 10 years. expansion and contraction during temp swings will be the hardest on stoves and associated components. Try to extend the warm up and cool down times and I believe the stove will rpefer those conditions...get and use a surface thermometer. I'm not familiar with the make of your stove but see what you can get from the manufacturer. Also inspect and relace gaskets and seals....air leaking in can waste energy by burnonmg your load faster and perhaps hotter or with less ability to regulate. operate dampers and doors/hatches smoothely without slamming..etc...Good luck.

I reccomedn a carbon monoxide monitor and a fire extinguisher as well (smoke detectors should be inplace regardless of what you heat with.)
