General MB questions.

Hey all im new here, i own a 93 BMW 325i, and i know quite a bit about BMW's. Anyway, most bmw drivers have a grudge against MB, generally i can see why, most of your cars are automagic.. which is a big no no in the world of bmw's.

Well to my questions; my dad needs a new car, as he wants to ditch his honda oddysey (sp) van. He doesnt want to spend more than around 5-6 grand and he wants either a BMW or a MB wagon. I immediatly suggested an m50 powered 525 wagon, but i thought i should at least consider the MB seeing as he has always loved how they look.

So, are there any sites that list all the models and engine types etc for benz's? I know absolutely nothing about benz's and i need some education..

Any suggestions on models i might consider? We dont want deisel, and it has to be somewhat sporty.. we probably want something built in the 90's but late 80's would probably be fine.

Basically could i get some general info on the older 80's and 90's benz's? Thanks.

BTW - these are some photos that recently sparked some interest about MB's for me. I think its a 190e? care to enlighten me?

That's either a 2.3-16 or the later 2.5-16. It was the platform that was used to return Mercedes back to closed circuit racing. The 2.3-16 was the only one brought to North America, the 2.5-15 wasn't ever "smogged." With a twin cam head developed by Cosworth Engineering and unique body kit and spoiler, it's quite the departure from Mercedes of the late '80's and is sometimes called the "Banker's Hot Rod."

$5-6K

MB 190e 2.6, 300e

BMW late 80's 535is

We wanted a BMW but they all had high miles and the
prices seemed high. Found a low miles one owner 91 190e 2.6

Wagons: Take a look at Subaru and Volvo 240, Not sporty
but you may get a better car for $5K.

I would think a 94-95 E320 would fit the bill nicely. Or if he wants something with guts try an E420/400E; those should be able to give some M3's are good run. Well until you have to turn.
