Smitten.

It’ll be a while before i'm ready for another car but this looks like a fine example of a 300GD

That same vehicle was on ebay with the same pics about a month or so ago. Got up to around $19k if I remember correctly. Don't have a clue why it is back up. Musta not been what is represented is the only thing I can imagine.

I saw other references to this vehicle as well, and while I’m not in the market at the moment, the 300GD looks like a delightful platform.

BTW, how difficult is it to convert one of these engines to run on heating oil? Any loss of performance as a result?

I think you could just pour heating oil into the tank and run it unmodified. (In the right climate. ?)
You can get WVO kits for about $600.00 to $1,500.00 if that would be required.
More info here: What can't we burn in our diesels ???
PS see posts #2 & #4 for the gist if the heating oil issue.

Thanks for the link!

I didn’t know there were legal issues about using heating oil as vehicle fuel. Are all road vehicle fuels required to include hiway taxes as a portion of their cost?

Thanks Jim!

Is it difficult to increase the HP output for the 300d engine? Someone said that a 300GD could barely do 65 mph, but not while going up a mtn road.

I may be with "Waste" oil that since its free, and has already been used for, another purpose, and is not marked by dye as tax exempt... there is no tax required. I think that the tax codes have not caught up to this type of fuel yet. There are many threads on this issue, mostly on diesel forum i think.
