I know we've been over this before, but...
My Norton anti-virus is up for renewal. It promted me that the version I now have, Norton anti-virus 2002, is no longer supported by their technical staff (of course) and they recommend that I purchase a newer version.
Do I really need to do that? Here's the page where they ask me to upgrade: Click here

I've been surfing here and there lately to find antivirus programs. I used to think that it was just norton and mcaffee that was out there. I have discovered that they are not the only game.
Main reason I've been looking around, is I have a bit of spyware that won't go away...some of the free trial ones don't even see it...others see it, but only get rid of bits here and there (I use hijackthis). Only as of late has norton been able to stop it in its tracks, although it still lets registry changes slide through, leaving me with the cws hompage (darn good thing I have hijackthis). None of them have been able to get rid of two wintools (Ibis,LLC) entries, although it looks like the rest of the wintools is disabled. In short... look around.. Panda (a link to which was posted by another member) seems decent so far, and when it comes time for my renewal, will be one of the top 5 contenders. Spysubtract seems decent too (the guy that wrote spybot S&D and CWS shredder works with them now)...although their trial version will not remove anything...but at least it tells you were it is (most of the time). All that typing on my part and no definitive answer.... Not only that, but this is my 1000th post, and instead of it being some insightful Benz repair tip, it is my two cents on antivirus programs.

I use AVG anti-virus from www.grisoft.com. There is a free version for single use.

Not sure I really trust Norton after that experience. At least they are being honest with you though. Currently I am on PC-cillin, I think it's expensive, got it through my network at work. Its seems really good as it has updates for me at least once a day and sometimes twice.
