Ghosts

I was flipping through the channels last night and came across Ghostbusters. I hadn't seen it in a while, but it made me wonder how many seemingly normal other people thought they'd had some sort of ghost experience. I'm not sure mine qualifies, but my dog is sure.

In 1998-1999, I worked for a small youth development agency in Atlanta. The office was on a small nature preserve in an old farmhouse. There was a street of homes that backed up to the property, but the nearest house was about 100 yards away from the office house.
When I first arrived, I noticed some strange things about the house. There were bricks in front of the file cabinets, for one. My boss explained that sometimes they'd just open. I said it was likely old wood floors being crooked, but she insisted that they'd leveled the cabinets properly but it didn't seem to matter. The file cabinets in her office, especially the one next to her desk, were the prime offenders.
Also, we had visits from neighbors on the street across the field. One old guy would ask who had been in the office so late the previous night, turning all the lights on and off. No one had been there. He said he was sure, because he could see shadows in the windows. The alarm had not been set off, and had been armed all night. This happened with reasonable frequency. Eventually, it became a joke to talk of 'the ghost'. Some of my coworkers would refrain from visiting the office after hours, but I never gave it a second thought.
I got a promotion after almost a year which required a bit more work. So, I'd sometimes go in after dinner. One time, I took my dog. He was thrilled to sniff everywhere, as dogs do. He sniffed all around the exterior of the house, then sped inside, sniffing here and there. I started working at my desk downstairs, but eventually the dog came over and started to compete for my attention. So, I decided to take him upstairs.
He shot up the steps, and darted from room to room, sniffing all the while. I watched him cover each room, perhaps looking for one of the raccoons that we knew inhabited the walls from time to time. When we were exploring the Office Manager's office, a 4x8 foam core mounted photograph suddenly fell off the wall in the hallway. It was quite loud, but did not break, and I went out to re-hang it, sure that the dog must have bumped it in his sniffing frenzy. As I was hanging it, the incessant clip-clip-clip of his toenails on the wood floor ceased suddenly, and I turned to see him peering into the last room that we had yet to enter. This was my boss' office.
I told him to "Go on!", but he was alert; hair on his back was raised, and his head was lower than his shoulders, as though he were looking for or at something. I walked up behind him and pushed his backside, at which he dug in and backed up to his original position. I walked past him into the office, and gave him a couple of commands (which, I might add, he always obeys- he's very well trained). They fell on deaf ears. I tried to cajole him into the room, got down on one knee and tried to drag him into the room, all to no avail. He absolutely would not enter the room. So, I gave up. I walked back past him towards the staircase to go back down to my office. He seemed slightly emboldened, and craned his neck then quickly withdrew it several times, as one might test the hotness of a stovetop. I'd had enough. "Come here". He retreated to my side, but kept both eyes on the doorway. At this point, I heard a noise downstairs, and peered down and around the corner to see what it was. The copier had spontaniously made a copy.

At that point, I decided that I had finished what I needed to accomplish that evening, and escorted the dog out the door. I set the alarm, and we went home. I still have no idea what got into him that night, as he's never ever behaved that way before or since. Ghosts?

What wierdness have you encountered?

I had a ghost experience. Long ago, at the ripe old age of about 5 years. I was in bed. The lights were out. Something that looked similar to what a TV display looks like when it’s on but not receiving a signal came into the room from an alcove on one side of the room. The alcove had a door. The door was closed. The thing moved about the room briefly, maybe for 20 seconds or so, and then went back into the alcove. That was about 42 years ago and i remember it as if it happened yesterday.

I didn’t know it at the time, and years later, long after the family moved out of that house my mom relayed the story of the 2 children and a dad who had died in a house fire, shortly before my family moved in.

My wife complains about a ghost that only seems to appear when I'm home late at night or early in the morning.

She said it starts with a loud frrrrrrrrappppp sqerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy and is followed by a green cloud and bad odor. She has woke me up to see it but I can only smell roses and see the dogs running from the room.

Seriously though.

I've had a couple could be ghost encounters and do believe that they exist.

The most memorable was footsteps at night for 3 nights in row in an old carriage house in the Battery Charleston S.C. . I got disturbed about it when I informed our host about it. He explained that it was a ghost and he was pissed because he had told the ghost not to disturb the guests and this was not a BS'ing kind of guy he was dead serious.

The footsteps did not return for the rest of the visit. Crazy $hit.

There is a house in my town that goes up for sale about 3 months after a new owner moves in, this has been going on for a few years. Apparently it has a BAD ghost that throws things and rearranges furniture.

I used to joke about "our" haunted house on Saint Simons Island, GA. I was there on a very extended detail, rented a nice little house right on the beach, just south of the town center (Saint Simons) less than 1/2 mile from the lighthouse. Older house, turn of the century shiplap, which just happened to be for sale.

Sometimes we would head to the store, or into town leaving the TV and lights off, when we would come home the TV and lights would be on, if we left them on while on a short walk on the beach they would be off on our return. Always tagged those on the possibilty the realtor was showing the house (without notifying us they were coming).

What we couldn't explain away was the swivel chair that would turn on its own with no set pattren. Or that we could roll a ball down the hall and sometimes it would roll straight into the room at the end of the hall, sometimes it would break left into another bedroom or break right into the kitchen. Had one of my compadres over for Christmas dinner and showed him the ball phenomena...he still talks about today almost 17 years later, hell I still talk about it.

Never saw any auras or glows or had any sort of sightings, but definitely witnessed some odd stuff. My youngest sister though swears she has seen ghosts at several family homes.

I stayed with friends six years ago in the village of Stradbroke,in the English countryside. They live in an 800 year old house (technically a castle) complete with a moat.

I didn't see the ghost, but they swear that they have one. They have a staircase that leads from the kitchen to the upstairs bedrooms. There is a door at the bottom that they lock every night with a latch. On many occasions, they will come down in morning to find the latch unlocked and the door wide open.

Another time, they were out in the garden when they heard a loud crash from the house. They ran in and found that all the plates had fallen off the kitchen table. Strange thing was, the table was perfectly level, and the plates had fallen in two directions: half on one side of the table, and the other half on the other side of the table.

At least they have a relatively harmless ghost!!

The other experience is from my step-sister. She's a perfectly level headed lawyer with no reason to make this up:

One night after she and her husband moved into their 150 year old house in Old Towne Alexandria (accross the river from DC), she awoke to see an old man leaning over and looking into the face of her husband. The man was dressed in the type of clothing worn last century. She was completely awake when she saw this. The "man" stared at her husband for a minute or so, then walked out of the room.

She learned from some neighbors later that the home had once been owned by an elderly couple. We figure he was just making sure that a good couple was taking good care of their home. He's never returned...

My friends and I were playing with a Quaiji(sp?) board one day and after asking the perfunctory questions, we began to realize something weird was happening and we asked if there was anyone in the room, yes.

Boy, no, girl yes. and so on and so forth. At this point I'm getting a little creepy. My friend ark asks the girl to spell her name and she does, then eventually to show herself.

Now I don't know if I imagined this or not, but we must have wall either seen it or imagined the same exact thing.

We were sitting in their kitchen and up on the stove, a small figure of a woman/girl appears wearing a blue dress. She was pointing one direction with her dress blowing in the wind behind her.

I don't remember what happened ext, but the following Monday my friend Mark goes to the local library and searches the archives of the local paper and finds the girls name in a story. She died in an auto accident not far from where the house was built.

I suppose my frined could have known about her before that night and made up the whole thing to mess with me, but I can't explain the little figure on the stove.

???????????????????
