Types of "Handicap"s

Okay, the only other forum I populate is for motorcycles, and they usually dont worry about handicapped spaces.

I was driving my 240D through the drive-through at a fast food place and saw a woman pull her car into the handicapped spot. Once the car stopped, she put a handicapped placard on the mirror, got out of the car and walked in to the restaraunt.
She had no trouble walking, nor was anyone else in the car. I was left wondering...

...what kind of "handicaps" do you need to have such that you can get a handicap sticker/plate/placard and still walk into mcDonalds at a brisk pace (faster than a 240D at idle in first =).
I'm sure there are some, I dont wish to be judgemental, but I cant think of any.

yeah... sometimes you wonder....

My cousin (in her early 30's) weighs about a buck soaken wet, and is around 5'5". Rather skinny, actually, and doesn't look injured in any way shape or form. But her back problems are such that she is taking Kadian (morphine i think) everyday. If she doesn't, all she can do is lay there. As far as walking goes, her trips to a grocery store are not for very long. I would imagine though that she would not need a blue parking spot for a walk into a fast food place. I "encourage" her not to take the blue parking spots if she doesn't need them. And, apparently the only time she actually does, is when my 78 year old grandmother is along (she uses a walker since she broker her femur).

So, in conclusion....Ya never can tell for sure!

Some people use the tags when they're not for them. I hate to disparage my mom like this, but she's one of them. Her husband is legally blind, so they have handicap tags. She uses them even if he's not in the car with her. I confronted her about it once, and she gave me the excuse that she's an "old lady" and shouldn't have to walk that far. She's 68 but by no means unable to walk a few blocks.

I'd like to see her say that to someone in a wheelchair sometime. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom and we get along great, but that one thing really bugs me!

I had a stable pubic remi fracture and stable sacreal fracture and broken ribs and they gave it to me for 6 months. I hate the crutches so I don't use them after 2 weeks. I had my accident in Nov and it took till mid dec before I could breath on the ribs. I used to be able to pull my pants on standing but now I have to sit because it hurts. However, when I walk, it seems normal but it isn't. There are twinges now and then. So, just because I look normal doesn't mean something isn't broken.

I don't know about FL but here in WI, you need to have a doctor's note to get it. How would they somehow get the tags?

Oxycontin is used for pain in general. Depending on what works. I had dilaudid and it made me sick so they had to up me to morphine in the PCA. So, it is hard to say why the prescribed Oxycontin without looking at the circumcisions of the case. I cannot take T3 or I get sick to my stomache so I might request Oxycontin or MS Contin for pain. For instance, when I am starting a cold and I think it is going to something severe like Asthmatic Brohchitis or Pneumonia, I request Tussinex. Tussionex Extended-Release Suspension is a cough-suppressant/antihistamine combination used to relieve coughs and the upper respiratory symptoms of colds and allergies. Hydrocodone, a mild narcotic similar to codeine, is believed to work directly on the cough center. Chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine, reduces itching and swelling and dries up secretions from the eyes, nose, and throat. I know it has Hydrocodone Polistirex which is similar to Hydrocodone. However, when I take the Codiclear which has Hydrocodone, it is a 4 hour thing and fast acting. Tussionex is slow acting and long lasting (12 hrs). When I burp, codiclear tastes terrible. Tussionex tastes pretty decent. The narcotic in both makes me a little woozy however, I prefer a 12 hour constant woozy to a up and down woozy every 4 hrs.

I'm sure there are some doctors that are pretty liberal about it but for the most part, I don't think they will just write a note without a reason.

When I had a sprained ankle, it took a long while to heal because I wouldn't sit still but the doctors didn't want to give me a tag. I have 3 months on my current tag from a fracture on the hip and I do use it although I walk somewhat normally

It was to take 2 weeks but it went on and on because I kept aggrevating it. Of course, I took pain meds to stop the pain so I could do what I wnted to do.
