For all cat lovers

http://www.thewbalchannel.com/news/4274951/detail.html

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The Wisconsin man who's asked the state to allow hunters to kill stray cats says he's been getting death threats.

Mark Smith told La Crosse police he's gotten angry phone calls and messages at work and at home.

Police reports said one call made while Smith was working at the La Crosse Fire Department suggested it should be "open season on firefighters." Another woman told Smith that if the state Legislature approved his request Smith would be hunted down and killed.

Smith has asked the Wisconsin Conservation Congress to vote on his proposal at an April 11 meeting. That vote would be advisory. The Legislature would have to consider the proposal before cats could be hunted.

Smith has proposed that any cat not under the owner's direct control or wearing a collar should be considered fair game for hunters with small-game licenses.

Cat enthusiasts are trying to organize opposition to Smith's proposal. Ted O'Donnell, a co-owner of MadCat Pet Supplies, has said the proposal is a "callous response" to the problem of cats preying on wild birds. He recently set up a Web site to inform people about it.

Perhaps we should worry more about stray dogs, or those not under 'direct control' of their owners.
At least stray cats haven't been accused of killing people, unlike the three pit bulls, here in Virginia, that attacked and killed an 83 year old woman in her yard this week. And those dogs weren't strays either, but belonged to a neighbor.

Happy Motoring, Mark

The bottom line is owners should keep their pets under control. We have a cat that stays indoors where a pet should be and have neighbors who let the felines roam and don't care about the fact that their pets are killing around peoples bird feeders and pissing on front porches.

Simple. I have two cats. Both are indoors 24/7. They are content, happy, and well fed. I do not worry about their well being.

My neighbour has god know how many cats roaming around their property (and everyone elses for that matter.) Three have been hit by cars, and four more became snacks for my Wolfdog when I had him. Others have turned up missing.

I like animals alot, but I swear that if I ever catch the cat that keeps climbing up on the Goldwing, it will take the airborne express route back over the damn fence.

First I would like to say that I don't advocate the killing of household pets of any kind unless all other options have failed. The so called Humane Society fails to accomplish what they promise cash donors they will do, which is to care for unwanted or stray household animals, they also have one of the worst charity ratings around.

Whats interesting about this issue is the guy who is proposing a law which must be approved by the government is getting death threats despite the fact that a government agency would ultimately allow the killing of feral cats. How often to rat and mouse lovers threaten mouse/rat trap buyers?

I have a new neighbor who has taken to feeding all the neighborhood strays. They got into my garage over the winter (though they have since been evicted), so the garage, along with the storage shed, back yard, front porch (a family lives underneath) etc... all reek of cat crap. Futhermore, the birds and squirrels that used to come feed in my yard are long-gone. I am going to have to call the humane society and have them bring out some live-traps. I can't take it anymore.

Funny thing is my dog is basically blind and couldn't care less. He's none the wiser to them roaming his yard.

Cats should be expected to be under the same rules as dogs.....

Not leash...no collar....off to the oven.
