Talk about being an Illini fan without being an Illini. I spent way too many years in Champaign. My wife did her undergrad and grad school there. Her Dad estimates he spent 300k and put 80k miles on the truck putting five girls through Illinois.

Eight of the top sixteen seeds gone at this point -- fabulous tournament as always. WV - Wake gets my vote as game of the tourney so far. Go Illinois! Go Texas Tech!

Spartans to the Sweet Sixteen, I think I'm heading to Austin to warm up and watch some b-ball.

Illini

I live just south of Champaign and spend LOTS of time up there... hence my pulling for the Illini.

Man, there have been some really close games these last couple of days. I though the Duke game should have been much closer than it turned out to be. I had no vested interest in either team, but I found it appaling how biased toward Duke the announcers were. One guy nearly wet himself when MS State was awarded a timeout at the end of the game; he seemed /sure/ that Duke had the steal, and started into his squeal of joy as the other announcer tried to explain that the coach had clearly called time. There were numerous no-calls down the stretch.

Duke deserved to win, I won't argue that. I just found it odd that few, if any, of the questionable no-calls were replayed (i.e. the MS ST dunk that almost was).

I like all the upsets I'm seeing, though... gotta love seeing some of the wind taken out of the swaggerers' sails! As long as IL keeps winning I'll be happy...

Chris

The idea that one must justify which sports teams they choose to back is utterly ridiculous. I didn't attend U of I, does that make me some sort of "fake" fan? I happen to have lived in the Chicago area for an extended period, so support local/regional teams just like most people. I also like Indiana, Texas Tech, Duke, Gonzaga, St, Josephs, Richmond, the list goes on. But above all, my favorite college hoops team is Illinois and it has been for a long time. I did attend both Loyola University and University of Colorado and don't really root for either. The fact is, I can like whoever I want and don't have to justify it to anyone. This is America and the only obligation we have as Americans is to hate the Yankees!

HA HA....go Dawgs! Washington has made it a lot harder to question the No. 1 seed in the Albuquerque Regional.

Well, they've just beaten two weak sisters so far. Let's see if they make it past Louisville...

I made dinner for Lou Henson and friends once. Does that qualify me as a fan?

Fair weather fans are generally this insecure group that can't help but choose the safest team to avoid the embarrasment of losing. Most of the fans often change favorite teams as the season goes on.

Kuan: You have family and money that went to Illinois, you live in a big ten town and Illinois is pretty close to you so cheer on bro.

Michigan State will probably lose to Duke, at that point I will cheer for Illinois because it's a big ten team and I can't stand Wisconsin.

Yeah, I guess they didn't have to battle with with Delaware State like Duke did.

Louisville will be a good test. They did beat several ranked teams during the season including Utah who knocked off OK.

My brother and I graduated from Illinois and Southern Illinois for different majors...

...rooting for Illini ...sad for the Salukis...
