Net Radio Stations

Since installing a digital to analog converter on my PC to stream music from the PC to the home stereo, I've gotten hooked on 'net radio broadcasting. Currently I'm listening to www.boomerradio.com which has 4 channels of programming: Accoustic Cafe, Sweet Soul Music, Classic Mix (Broadband) and Smooth Jazz Favorites. They play a lot of lesser hits and the non single album selections. It's like a time machine back to the 70's and '80's, but without the bad hair and Nixon.

Any other suggestions for 'net stations?

You might consider XM Radio. It's not free, and they're raising the price to $13/month (from $10), but with the increased price they're giving free access to all of their 150+ stations online. If you have no interest in using it in your car, home, etc. it may not be worth it, but if you use it in other venues the online access is a nice feature. The variety's better than any other online source, e.g. they have 7 channels with different varieties of country music, 7 of soul/hip-hop/"urban", etc. I think Sirius has something similar, but I haven't used it myself.

A cool "airwave" station that streams online is KCRW, the NPR station in Santa Monica, CA. Besides the usual NPR news and talk shows, it broadcasts a number of excellent new music shows including Morning Becomes Eclectic (which has issued several CD's of artists playing live in their studio), Metropolis (great late night stuff), and a few others. Check it out at www.kcrw.org and see if anything appeals to you. They're also introducing podcasting if you want to displace where you listen as well as when.

No Sat radio yet out here in the middle of the Pacific, either XM or Sirius. The birds don't see over our horizon.

my fav is www.theiceberg.com and www.2kool4radio.com which is one of the iceberg's stations, maybe one of their first? 2 kool was the first place I heard the strokes, belle and sebastien, the vine, the hives, the doves, the dears....all long before I heard them on the radio, if they get played there at all.

Seattle's first class news and public affairs radio station KUOW 94.9 offers two feeds of internet radio streaming:

http://www.kuow.org/listen_live.html

and

http://www.kuow.org/kuow2.html

Or, you can choose to listen to the similarly first class Jazz and Blues station KPLU, found online at:

http://www.kplu.org/whatson/indexlisten.cgi

These two radio stations play the soundtrack to my everyday existence.
