annoying rear fog lights

Alright, i understand the purpose of rear foglights, and i think they are a good safety feature(when used properly), but if mercedes is going to make that option available to the public then they need to inform the damn fools that use them on a regular basis. I've seen several newer MB's with their front and rear fog lights on in crystal clear weather, and it is a huge annoyance to be following, it makes you think that one of their rear brake lights is out and they are riding the brakes. Has anyone else noticed this increase of this?

Yup, I've noticed this especially on the Audis because they seem to have a pair of rear fog lights?? (instead of one)

I just overtake em and ignore..

Sorry guys but I use'm front and back as day time driving lights mostly because whenever I turn them off I almost get torpedoed by another car. Lately I've been turning the rear one off since the parking lights are on anyway. Also I find that it makes people divert their attention from their cellphone conversation to the bright lights bearing down on them as they scan the highway!

Maybe if you hardwired a cell phone jammer to your rear foglight circuit.......HEY you wouldn't even need the rear foglight to work anymore!

When I had the C280 Sport for a brief while, my girlfriend would tell me my rear light was acting funny when she followed me one night. I tried to fix it myself including changing the bulb ($12) at the dealer. And the "problem" persisted until after I sold the car and found out that was the fog light What a stupid design. I would imagine the dealer should have known that is a feature of their cars instead of letting me bought a new bulb to replace a perfect one.

rear fog lights are useful as a safety item.. in fog

sorta like daytime running lights which have proven to be effective at increasing a car's visibility in all sorts of weather.

I don't know but it has been a feature since who knows when.

That is true unless someone follws you and then tells you your rear light looks different. I have been driving MB for over 10 years and never once had someone told me my rear light one side is brighter than the other. And it only does that if you pull the knob out twice.

On my w202, there is a red light in the center of the exterior lamp knob. Turn it all thhe way to the right and headlights, parking lights, and taillights come on. Pull out once, and the front fog lights come on. Pull out once more and the red light in the center of the knob lights up, and the rear fog light is actiivated. Simple.

exactly, i dont see how you can get confused.

i see audis all the time driving around with the rear fog on. they think its cool to sport the rear fog light even in clear weather. all english cars have dual lights because its the law over there.

I don't know if that car came with an
owners manual when you bought it but
if it did then the workings of the car
are explained in it.
But most people don't read it and that
includes me.

If it was mandatory like in Europe then
everyone in the US would know about
it too.
But safety doesn't seem to be a priority
here, money is.

Most people here don't know any better
when it comes to the rear fogs.
So they get turned on by mistake.
I do however agree with the comment
about the front fogs.
I don't see why people need use them
if it's nice or daylight out.

Louis.

Wow, glad to see they are HIGHLY noticeable!

I use mine only in heavy rain/fog, and mainly because I WANT my car to stand out so people avoid me. My Jetta was destroyed in a rear-ender a few years back, and trust me, if you have been hit by a cargo van from a dead stop at 60mph, you would be MORE than happy to use your "annoying" rear foglight liberally.

I think they should have a separate switch for them. Then if a person turns the knob all the way out by mistake it should turn on a flashing stop light feature instead. Its more effective in preventing rear end collision. You hit the brakes and the stop lights flash a few times before going to full on.
